Pickup swap for my Ibanez RGR652AHBF
« on: January 05, 2021, 06:15:48 PM »
Hi Pickup Enthusiasts,

I was looking for a good pickup combo for my Ash wood guitar.

The stock Dimarzio Fusion pickups sound muddy and have far too much low end and barely any mid frequency.

I play a lot of genres including clean stuff, rock, metalcore and metal. (I do Rhythm and lead I use a Boss RC-10R to loop to make full tracks)

I am set on the Holy Driver in the Bridge. for the neck I am unsure but so far am interested in the Aftermath and Emerald pickups.

I would like the neck pickup to be quite clear for when I play cleans but also be good for low and mid overdrive.

Are any of the neck pickups I have chosen good for that kind of thing? If not what would you recommend?

Look forward to hearing from you all :)

I would go for the HD-set. The neckpickup is more open and brighter than most contemporary neckpickups.
Of course you can mix different BKP's, but these matched sets are the results of a lot of R&D.

Thanks for the suggestion I thought that to myself as well but after speaking to Chris from BKP I think I might go for the Mule in the neck position.

It seams to sound like a more mildish version of the HD and after hearing it I think that's what I've been looking for.

When Chesterfield goes back to tier 3 I can drop the guitar off at my local guitar place and get the new pups installed.

I'll let you know how it sounds when the builds completed.

It's hard to go wrong with either the Holy Diver or Mule in the neck, good luck with the new pickups as and when you have them installed.
