I actually hear quite a pronounced difference between the Mesa OEM v30 vs the Chinese v30. Maybe it is the mixing practice?
RE: Dream tone. The more you play, the more you discover how much your 'sound' is in your hands. The way you play has a massive impact on how the music translates live or on a recording. An amplifier is merely a tool to that end.
I watched Glenn Fricker's video on 'the tone is in the hands' where he had all skilled metal players playing metal into a boosted peavey. Obviously, the overall sound was quite consistent because the style was the same. I had the Dual Recto (That I sold) boosted and when my brother tried my 7 string guitar through that setup, he sounded like he was playing rock / grunge because that is what he trained his hands to do. When he hands me the guitar, the 'sound' of the rig totally changed.
That being said, make no mistake: ReVv is on the same teir as Deizel or Mesa Boogie, and it doesn't need a boost. They are absolutely crazy amps :)
