Almost a year passed. Ben advised met the 52's for a versatile combo. So I bought a set of 52's but they sent me a set of flat 50's (not BKP themselves to be clear). Since I doubted between both sets anyway, I decided to keep them.
I was impressed by the neck, but I'm a cool lover of the bridge. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I find it rather dull. Certainly not as high output/fat as I anticipated. Might be the combination with my amp (some kind of DIY 5W Vibro Champ/Champ with 12" speaker (Eminence GA SC64 or WGS G12Q).
Anyway, I'm still curious about the 52's. I think I would still prefer a more classic Tele bridge sound.
How much does the '52 deviate from standard tele sounds (particularly the bridge)? They marketeer it as very unique. Is it something you can hear on records, or is it really unique in its sound and not used a lot?
On the other hand, the Fender CS Nocaster 51 set would be very much alike, for much less money. Has anyone compared these?

Hi,

I have a Squier Classic Vibe 50 with pine body and maple neck. I was doubting between the Flat 50's and 52's. For a very versatile set, Ben advised me the flat 52's. The Yardbirds would be too trebly. I ordered some from an online shop but they sent me the 50's in stead. I decided to keep them.
I quite like the neck, it's not as dark as the original (Tonerider) in the CV50. The bridge, however, is not as fat as I expected. I still don't know if I really like it, but better than what was in it. It does need some height adjustments to get it acceptable.
Anyway, I think I'll go after a set of 52's, but those are even more polite for your needs, I guess.

Hi all
 pickups that still sound
I'm looking at some pickups for a pine-body partscaster I'm building.

I have `a few' telecaster-style guitars already, some with SC, some with HBs; so I'm looking at some SC tele pickups that resemble a tele, but a little less polite whilst still retaining the tele twang. 

I am looking at the Flat 50s and the Yardbirds.  Looking at the tone charts they are similar with the 50s having a little extra output.  Or perhaps a hybrid of the 2.

Thoughts, comments, brickbats...

The Polymath will get to to quite a similar overall voicing, but the attack and overall pick response will feel a little softer, with less edge and a more natural bloom to the note. This is down to the less powerful version of Alnico v that we use for the Polymath

I’ve been a BKP person for about 20 years or maybe more.

This area was quiet when I joined, and it seems the pickup area is getting there too.

Damn shame, as there’s some good knowledge here.

With that kind of setup, you can get some great results from a fairly classic Alnico pickup, especially if you pick pretty hard - I would definitely recommend checking out the Holydiver bridge humbucker, one of our all-time favourites for this style of guitar. For the full setup in an HSH guitar, I would pair that with an Emerald in the neck and a '63 Veneer board singlecoil in the middle. That combination has been a favourite amongst the staff here for a long time, several of us have run it in RGs with some awesome resulting tones!

The Riff Raff is certainly on the brighter end of humbucker voicings, so it'll definitely work just fine in the neck position. Dynamically, the bridge will perform much like the proper neck version, as they share identical architecture and magnet setup - the bridge just has a slightly hotter wind which will fill out the lows a little and produce a touch more output, but certainly well within the realm of a great neck pickup when paired with a hotter bridge.

I have an Ibanez RG2550Z. I use it with EVH 5150 Stealth 100w head and Celestion Classic Lead speakers. I pick hard and play chuggie groove metal riffs, beautiful cleans, mid gain stuffs. I find the best fitting BKP humbucker set for my stuffs and not clicky or steril. What can you recommend?
