Doh!
Missed out on a trick by a couple of mm and 40 years
-
Are you OK?
-
Yeah, fine thanks :) Would've still been ok if I'd taken it clean off - theres a freezer nearby with some peas in
Went through about 3/4 of it a little back from the tip. Will heal as well as any trivial cut. Just bled a lot, didnt stop for ages, and the above thought amused me.
Oh, a couple of mm, 40 years and 2 more fingers!
-
Do you have a hot daughter?
EDIT: Yikes, that's deep, at least it's not far along your digit though.
Does it sting?

No, and had I a daughter, being 27, anyone that decsribed her as hot would be in serious trouble!
Doesnt hurt one iota. The last thing I did before that with that particular knife was sharpen it    (stung a tiny bit going in, but thats it).
-
I hope it heals quick.
-
we need pictures!!! sounds nasty Mark, hope it gets better soon.
its always when you've using the sharpest knife too - I slashed my thumb open a couple of years back with a stanley knife 5 minutes after opening up a fresh blade.
-
I had a similar experience (but nowhere near as bad) the other week.
Was trying to cut a cable tie with a new knife, cable tie in annoying place so I had to hold it
Cut it across the inside fold of the joint. Index finger, left hand. Looks like it would be near the bone I guess, and bled like a bleeding finger... for a long time.
Good luck playing guitar, MDV ;)
-
jeepers, glad you're ok.

Thanks for the well wishing, but really all told its just a cut. I just thought the similarity was ammusing. I was very embarrased to have to go to a&e to waste doctors and nurses time going "i cut me finger, I cant make it stop bleeding to dress it or anything"
I blame human bilateral symmerty. If I had at least one other hand...well, sort this on my own was the least I could do  Or that I wasnt paying any attention to where my fingers were when using a very (very very very) sharp knife, one of the two

Many girls say it looks like I've got an extra leg... :? :P

i had a slip while washing a knife recently, it managed to embed itself in the bone of my first finger! that bled profusely, and the finger's still numb from the cut to the end of the finger. hoping it'll sort itself out. i should have gone for a couple of stitches, but being all macho ( and a tv show i wanted to see being about to start ) i didn't bother :)

I'm glad you went and got it sorted out, anyway! :D
From the first couple of posts it sounded like you were being a bit too relaxed/macho over what sounds like quite a serious injury!

In Croydon 27's almost old enough to be a grandad

Last year I had a small incident with a hand saw while trimming a tree.
It was a pretty deep cut. Fortunately I reacted quick enough.
I wouldn't have Iommi-ed my left index finger, I would have Django-ed it. :o

Sheeeesssshh MDV, there's certain things I get very squeamish over - this is one of them. If I'd been there to witness/help, or done it myself (I've done both in the past), I'd be handling it ok, but right now I'm sat here with that "eeeeurgh...AGGHH!" feeling
Hope it heals well/fast and causes as little discomfort etc as possible.
Not too sure about this bloke though....

Sounds like he might be suffering from a recent bang on the head or something... do you think he needs help?

Cheers philly. Its as bad a cut as I've had (I too have embedded a stanley knife in the first segmement bone of my index finger, that was my previous best at age 16, and the last time I cut my self doing anything that can be passed off as work), but its hardly a serious injury! Last time I went to hostpital....well, no, last time I went was to take a mate who, very drunkenly, had chipped off about 1/5 of the front section of his cornea thinking it was his contact lense, and someone had to carry his 16 stone semi-comatose arse about the place...the time before that was to take a plate and screws out of my ankle. The time before that, to put them in.
And why, oh why oh why did I say index finger when it is in fact my middle finger? Made perfect sense at the time.
Anywho, on the bright side, (all this was actually sennheisers fault, I'll explain...). See, I got some IE8s, and the inserts are rubbish, and none of them gave a good seal. So I got some foam earplugs, cut out the centre, cut the core out of the smaller senn inserts, stuck them in the plugs and went hunting for superglue - a nearly completely hard tube was the best I could find, and it was cutting through the bloody hard glue to get to the still-soft glue when I lost control of the knife. Anyway, the inserts are complete, far better than any the IE8s come with and the phones utterly $%ing rule, and they havent even burned in yet! Very pleased with them!

Thanks andy, it will be fine in couple of days :)

ouch!!! - I feel your pain man. I tried forcing out the ferrules on a guitar once with a thin (and very sharp as it turned out) screw driver. I ended up sticking it into my 1st finger on my left hand - stung like mad.
-
I hope it heals soon for you Mark.
I took the tip off my middle finger with a stanley knife around 20 years ago. It still had some nail attached to it, bled for hours and stung a lot. It all healed ok and doesn't notice now. I actually heard it hit the floor when it happened.

I'm glad I wasn't eating when I read that.... PDT_047

Much ouch. Actaully cutting off your fingertip >>>> nearly cutting off your fingertip. Stabbing yourself with a screwdriver cant be fun either (blunter = more painfuller; the knife I did this with was razor sharp)
Its fine now. Just looks like a normal curvey cut round my fingertip - no evidence whatsoever that its about 7mm deep. Cant feel a thing unless I knock it (am typing with it back in normal usage now).
Cant play guitar again as yet, that hurts, and I worry that it'll snag on the strings and open again.
