Title: Covered or Uncovered?!
Post by: _tom_ on August 11, 2005, 07:08:33 PM
After seeing the Steve Stevens LP with the black and gold pickups, I want the same done to my Mules! However, I could go the cheap route and get the covers taken off for a tenner a piece, or get new black covers fitted for £20 a piece. Whatcha think?

Cheers!

I have uncovered pups on all my PRS and I love the look of uncovered on Les Pauls but since I bought this '79 Custom it's been doing my head in trying to decided which look to go for. The original pups are covered but after twenty odd years are really pitted and all the gold is off in most parts, I originally thought I'd go for black coils but changed my mind. since it's a three pickup model I thought gold would look better so I ordered gold Cold Sweats and Tim aged them for me ........... they look great and should age even more with a little time  :D

I have a Warpig and Mississippi Queen coming in the raw nickel because it looks so good.  I am changing the hardware on the Explorer for them, I love that unpolished nickel look.

The BKP black covers look awesome. I have an engraved set in my SG. Can't think of anything that would look better in that guitar.

ahh right cool! I think I'm gonna go for it, it'll make it stand out a bit from most other LP Customs (except Steve Stevens' :P)!

Well, I've gone with "uncovered" after having A/B'ed my covered/uncovered BKP's at volume the other week. I don't know why, but the uncovered Black Dog's in my Tokai just seem to have that nice aggresive edge that the covered Emerald's don't, even though the Emerald's have a higher output impedance.

Saying that, the Emerald's did sound fantastic.

Maybe with the next set of BKP's, I'll try some uncovered Nailbomb's... ;)

He told me its best to go covered seeing as I allready have the pickups and he doesnt know what colour bobbins might be underneath it.. In the Tech forum theres an FAQ about different tonalitys between covered and uncovered i think
