But it's all about modelling, I reckon - in the dark ages, there was a model of demonic possession, or witchcraft, or "God", or whatever that was used to describe things that couldn't easily be understood that were encounted in their daily lives.  Drilling holes in heads might have relieved symptoms that weren't understood, therefore "demons" were released from the body.

The "theory" behind the model might suck, but the end result might be useful.  Like cognitive psychology - you're less concerned with what goes on inside the black box of the mind, more about the input and output...

Although I'm not saying that Astrology is useful in any way whatsoever!!!  Just playing devils advocate.
