Just thought of a couple of movies to avoid:

Satan's Cheerleaders
Devil Dog: Hound of Hell
Manos: Hand of Fate

Get a few friends round along with some alcohol and watch Flesh Gordon.

It almost won an Oscar for its special effects!

Worth watching purely for the line;

"Good; there's oxygen on this planet!"

You'll know when you see the film...
I too use chicken as a measurement.

Withnail & I
City Of God
Ameros Perros
Sexy Beast
The Aviator
Manhatten
As good as it gets

Ah now, if we're talking Coen Brothers then everyone should watch just about all of their films.  But most especially The Big Lebowski and Fargo.

(Just skip Intolerable Cruelty and their horribly misguided remake of  The Ladykillers  :x )
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

I'm actually glad some other poor being has sat through Manos: Hand Of Fate.

I spent most of the running time checking I wasn't having some kind of acid flashback/stroke/mild insanity.

What a complete waste of everything involved in making it that film is.

And 7th Son - Sunshine? Really?

I really can't stand that movie :P

What's wrong with Sunshine? It's a good genuine sci-fi, there hadn't been any for a while...

Although a suprising amount of people seem to dislike it, I thought it was quite a good balance between plot/action and story/character development that people who enjoy both types of film would enjoy, but obviously not!

Maybe because it was marketed as being the next Armageddon, but what people got was a completely different film?

Will, here's some more that might still be available for download from the year before or so:

The Lives of Others
The Last King of Scotland
The Good Shepherd
Zodiac
Stranger Than Fiction
Curse of the Golden Flower
Babel
Pans Labrynth
Harsh Times
Flags of Our Fathers
Letters from Iwo Jima
Children of Men
The Prestige
The Queen
Red Road
Little Miss Sunshine
Volver
A Scanner Darkly
Breaking and Entering
Mischief Night
Little Children
The Host
Black Book
The Road to Guantanomo
Fast Food Nation
V for Vendetta
The Science of Sleep
Atonement

And also a brand new one which some might not like but is very $%&#ing good: Silent Light

But If you don't like it, it will certainly help you get to sleep

Flags of Our Fathers was a great movie, I recommend people to watch it.  Children of Men was a good movie too, but it was depressing for me to watch, though the acting and the plot were very good.  The Prestige is an awesome magicians movie.

I don't think anyone has mentioned any anime, so I'll list my faves:

Princess Mononoke
Ghost In The Shell
Appleseed
Appleseed: Ex Machina
Kiki's Delivery Service
Castle In The Sky
Spirited Away

What's brilliant about Kiki is how accurately he animated the flying. If you've ever had a flying dream, it's exactly the way it happens when Kiki first learns to fly .... brilliant animation!!

I wouldn't say anything by Kurosawa.

'Oh Brother Where Art Thou' is great too - my 2nd fave Coen Bros film, a great soundtrack too.

my girlfriend is saying 'Shawshank Redemption', so I have to list that one too, but to be fair it's a great film and I'd forgot to list it.

The Usual Suspects deserves a watch too - "give me the money you c--k-sucking mother-$%&#er!!!"
