I was tempted to buy one once.
Very beautiful guitar! Shame they're not real wide-range pups!

The original 72 deluxe tele had 'Wide Range' pickups designed by Seth Lover. They used CuNiFe rod magnets and sounded different to standard humbuckers. They had a bit more highs and lows, hence the 'wide range' name. Yes they were a physically a little bigger.

The re-issues have standard Alnico pickups built the Gibson way under a 'wide range' cover.

yeah, the new ones are standard humbuckers in a wde range style cover... whereas the originals where a truly original design

i think rio grande make replacements for wide range sized humbucker holes.  the fender ones are ok, but nothing special and nothing like the originals... which sound massive, fat and quite strangely very fendery at the same time

The originals are pretty much one of a kind, which is deeply worrying with every crackle or buzz from a  guitar equipped with them.
