Title: Zakk Wylde
Post by: Nadz1lla on October 22, 2007, 07:45:13 PM
Anyone know why he can't sing anymore?

I have Book of Shadows, his voice was really good on that album.

Now he just tries to imitate Ozzy. Badly.

He should stick to his roots!

I didn't even mind the Alice in Chainsy stuff of the early BLS, I just wish he'd lose the whine. I actually wrote a heartfelt plea to his website when 1919 Eternal came out( I know its really very sad  ). But I just wanted Zakk back doing his Allman Bros Vocals....

Agreed, it sounds shite now he's got that Ozzy thing going on.  When I first heard BLS I thought it was Ozzy singing until my mate told me.

His singing on P&G was the best, actually - thats his best album too (free of all that bullshitee macho-posturing biker cr@p)

noticed that as well...his effort at sounding more metal, I always thought..maybe trying to distance himself from his southern rock days, but I dig his Allman-like mushmouth singin'...(of course, I am in the deep south.. :)

I think that a P&G style band is currently what the world is lacking. I had a pop at doing some Southern style grooves a while backe with a group called Dead Man Wade but you just don't come across vocalists with that sweet southern style round these parts :D

My best guess as to the change in vocal style (which I really don't like - much prefer the P&G/Book of Shadows style voice) is that, as Ozzy's voice has got weaker, Zakk has had to back him up vocally far more when they play live, and has adapted his voice to fit. It's a shame - he sounds like an Ozzy clone now.

and also Ozzy's new music has the chugging BLS downtuned riffs
it seems they are becoming one

Who needs vocals when you have Pinch Harmonics?

Enough of the pinch harmonics, I need vocals.  Another vote for the P&G days, but I actually don't mind his "new" vocals so long as he doesn't go too much into Ozzy mode.   At least he tries to sing instead of grunting and growling.

ARGH!! ZAKK AND HIS PINCH HARMONICS!!

That's probably my biggest gripe about him, he uses them way too $%&#ing much. It's like "oohhh look at what I can do all the time!". He's a bearded, drunk equivalent of the kid who sits in the corner shouting "LOOK AT ME!"

Also, I'm pissed off that TWICE I've had tickets to see BLS and the gigs have been cancelled.

For those who reckon Zakk could never sing - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IA0kx9ZbOzI

Just wish he still wrote and sang like this.

I think most have agreed that he did sing once

If he shaved, he may begin to:
sing properly
think about composing music more
learn a new technique to overuse
and take his foot off the damn wah

Agreed. Much as I like his stuff, the last few BLS albums have been a case of 'enough of the damn wah pedal and picking every note, already!'

BTW, that's coming from someone who posesses a Zakk Wylde Dunlop Wah - I just don't use it all the time. I also have a legato lead style, which helps!

I think Zazz was just waiting for Dimebag to give him his Razor Back
