He was using ADA back then.

On Pornograffitti the amp was mostly an ADA MP-1 according to Michael Wagener's post on GearSlutz:

Quote from: Michael Wagener
Overdrive 1 : 4.0 dist
Overdrive 2 : 5.5 dist
Master Gain : 7.5 dist
Bass : 12
Mid : 6
Treb : 6
Pres : 12
Voicing : .tube
FX loop : off

From the ADA it went into the McIntosh 2100 (transistor) poweramp and from there into a vintage Marshall 4x12 cab with the original G12H inside. At that time I normally used Fostex M11RP ribbon mics and Countryman Lavalier mics through a John Hardy M1 to record guitar.

Apparently the same ADA (with almost exactly the same settings) was used on the White Lion and Skid Row records he worked on at around the same time.  Oh, and the fimware on the ADA was left at 1.xx because the 2.xx update didn't sound as good.

I would really like to get hold of an MP-1 for my rack.  I think Feline Jonathan's hording them all though.  ;)

eBay is probably your best bet.

Ah, I may have confused matters.  Nuno never worked with Skid Row, Michael Wagener (Producer) did.  And Mr Wagener has worked with pretty much everyone: http://www.michaelwagener.com/html/discography.html

Ahh right!   Thought I'd have known about it if he did!

Are they good amps?

What about a poweramp?

check here:
http://www.adadepot.com/cool_things/rigpics/rigpages/rig-nuno-b.htm

He's seen here with his Pornograffitti touring rack which had a couple of ADA MP1s and a bank of ADA T100s valve power amps.

If you are interested I'm selling one of the power amps at present :

An ADA T100s which is a 50W per side EL34 equipped power amp
This has been upgraded and tweaked by the guys at the ADAdepot (WWW.ADADEPOT.COM)

Here's a link to some specs:
http://www.adadepot.com/adagear/gearpages/poweramps/ADA-T100S.htm

It is the same as the one that Nuno Bettencourt was using on the Pornograffiti tour
Only takes up 2 rack units as well
Really nice but I kind of got stuck on the sound of my Marshall 9100 which has 5881/6L6 style valves, so it's not being used

I want £360 for it plus shipping

Link to picture of it:

Not played one myself, but there's a lot of fans of them around.

Loads of info here: http://www.adadepot.com/

As to power amps, no idea what he used.

I guess you know about the Washburn signature guitars he used.  The N4 is the one he used to use back then (still does I think).

Cheers both!

And yeh, the Washburns are cool.

Johnathan, sorry but no money atm, just plain curiosity, and maybe a future purchase. Besides I'm only 16, no longer earning :( , and my DSL has yet to fail me :D

But are they still being made?

I was reading some of the Wagener stuff, (I Loved his production on Slave to the Grind by Skid Row). Apparently Nuno used a steinberger with EMG's to record Pornografitti... That;s something I didn't know.

Yeah, I'm wondering if the Washburn thing was after Pornografitti started taking off.  I saw them at their Marquee gig just as that came out (their first European gig IIRC) but I can't remember what guitar he was using then.  He was definitely using an N4 by the time they came back and played the Astoria (supported by Saigon Kick... awesome gig).

all i know is he liked open-necked shirts, cravats, and had cool hair...

EDIT: just to be serious for a second, i think he used bill lawrence pickups? Never tried them, but I can get a pretty nice pornograffitti tone with my miracle man.

Prior to Pornograffiti Nuno used a Warmoth parts guitar with Bill Lawrence pickups...

The real tricky subject is: Did Nuno/Dimebag use OBL or Bill/Becky Lawrence pickups?

The whole Bill Lawrence thing fries my brain.... :(

I think it fried his brain too (from some of the things he has written)

Is there anywhere with some 'real' info regarding the split business

I was at the Marquee gig too (thursday 2nd May according to my ticket) and think he was using the N4 by then along with a N2 and N3

Basically these were the homemade guitars he used - made from Warmoth bits prior to the N4. N1 was the first , N2 the second etc

What - you got an MP1 for £20?
Blimey - what a bargain!

Get the MDRT transformer sorted and you'll be made
