Pretty much the worst thing I've ever heard.
-
Not even sure if they are human from the sound of them.
Sadly the reason that I pass on listening to so many modern metal bands - shite vocalist, or a good vocalist singing like shite!
-
yeah never get that sound closest I get is SOAD
-
Many are 'vocalists' now, and not singers. rather annoying
-
Just awful
-
C*nts
-
lol i found it quite funny tbh it's just a bit of fun at the end of the day...
-
This is what is so wrong with some people - I don't want to be an asshole here, but calling them ####!!s is hardly productive - That being said, I've heard many better cookie monster vocalist - If you don't like what you hear, then don't listen to it.
Not saying I think it's a good cover, but I think many people are saying it's terrible because it's a death metal cover - not because it's a bad death metal cover.
-
It makes me want to clear my throat.
-

sorry, but this shite is giving death metal a bad name. it's cr@p!
-
...this shitee is giving death metal a bad name
+1
I like a lot of Death Metal (though as a genre it was ruined by too many "generic" unimaginative bands being signed), but this is really bad :(
Barnes seems to have really gone downhill - his vocals have lost so much of their ferocity, just aimless grunting now. OK, he was a comically bad vocalist in Cannibal Corpse, but the first Six Feet Under album (with Allen West, which not surprisingly gave it a strong Obituary flavour) was quite good. Everything they've done since has been lousy though.
If you want to hear an extreme metal band cover ACDC well, try Exodus' recent rendition of Dirty Deeds, or for those with long memories, Onslaught's Let there be Rock.... :)
-
Ahahaha... Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't growl vocals supose to sound evil, scarry, mean, whatever (you know, death, blood, suffering and stuff). I rather find them quite funny most of the times, especially grind vocals!
However, there are lots of great death metal bands, with much better vocals!
Btw why is every growl vocalist fat? :D
-
Erm, Just out of interest (and without meaning to cause offence), all death metal sounds totally Identical to me.
How does one decide what constitutes "good" death metal and "bad" death metal.
In other words WTF is the difference between cannibal corpse, six feet under, maggot eyeballs and the dead grandma rapists, et al.
PS. and while we're at it, whats the difference between death and all the other metal styles doom, thrash, black etc.
-
I'm pretty sure this is a killing offense. Or at the very least a severe beating. ;)
Actually, Exodus used to do a damn fine version of Dirty Deeds...

Well, I'm not a fan as well, but if you ignore vocals, objectively many of them are great technical players, especially in technical death. They have some different musical philosophies, and some very interesting riffs.
Being a composer, I like to study any style, and I can say that some death metal players really amaze me sometimes.

could you give me some songs that I would might like, as a fellow non-BR00T4LZZZ person. I have managed to gain a base knowledge of almost all pop music, and even a bit of jazz and the once-dreaded "urban" music - really amazes the chavs when I can hold conversation with them about roll deep and dizzee rascal. But the appeal of uber-heavy metal, Jungle, and Screamo are beyond me.
BTW, I have no intention of ever trying to find screamo acceptable

Well, the easiest way would be to go to YouTube and search for "death metal guitar" or "death metal riffs"
Here are some clips

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9wL26xsT84

Like it or not, they are very good tehnical players.

The odd thing (actually, not that odd now I think about it) is that the original DC version actually sounds more menacing than that guy growling over dropped guitars ...
Goes to show all these OTT effects and active pups &c. are no substitute for raw talent when it comes to tone :)
-
agree ac dc sounded more menacing....and can't get on with death metal...have a mate who's big into cannibal corpse, six feet under etc..so am exposed to a lot...but it ain't singing to me...maybe it's my age *L* and as with a lot of metal seems to recycle a lot from much early bands like slayer, exodus etc
always seems weird when kids of 12 -13 etc are talking about slayer or iron maiden like there a new band *L*
-
i still don't understand death metal, or why people like it. i thought the guitars were supposed to do the heavy stuff, not the singing. A lot of people say all death metal sounds the same, because it does. When you add low growling singing to low growling guitar it blends and it's hard to tell whats going on. Can we get some more bands like pantera coming up?
-
I don't understand AC/DC and why people like it.
Death metal, like many genres of music, is an aquired taste. When you're used to it, it really doesn't sound all the same. Much like it's possible to dislike some rock bands, and love others.
People say "it all sounds the same" about classical and jazz music too. Why? Becuase they aren't used to it. I'm not saying you should force anyone to listen death metal (or jazz or classical) untill they can tell the differences between the bands/songs, but a lot of the times you'll find that they really don't sound the same. If I said every AC/DC song sounds the same, every Slayer song sounds the same, every Pantera song sounds the same, someone will disagree with me and likely because they are more "used to" said bands than I am. To me, all the songs I've heard from these bands sound the same, but I realize that isn't so for all people. I just don't care enough about these bands to prove me right or wrong.
-
6FU have put out alot of covers, no idea why they do it - they always ruin the songs. I'd much rather listen to their own stuff which is consentently good (imo).
-
I think TNT sounds silly with those vocals, but as a cover it's not that bad - just a bit of fun surely? I'm surprised everybody's so bothered about it.

+100.

it all depends on if you like death metal. to me i sincerely can't understand how that is music. but if thats your thing, maybe its ok? i dunno...
-
The Exodus Dirty Deeds cover is awesome, they didnt make it sound ridiculous but also made it their own. I see what you people mean about that TNT one being a bit of fun, but I dont think its even fun, its just shite :P

I always liked this version:

I don't like death metal, generally speaking, but this is the sort of video we usually have a "LOL, this is hilarious" thread about, I'm surprised it's sparked a debate about death metal itself.
It's funny, usually when death metal's discussed here there are loads of people sticking up for it, but when it's a death metal band doing a harmless, silly little AC/DC cover, everyone seems to hate them. :? :P
I certainly can't imagine AC/DC getting all lathered up about it.
-
Interesting. I find the guitar rather awful, sound and playing. But maybe I'm getting old (fashioned).

Sales of cWP's must be down! Buy shares in Riff Raffs!
It is a bit odd ... and lets face it (and I speak as a massive AC/DC fan) the comment 'it all sounds the same' can be leveled at DC themselves, or any genre of music that you aren't particularly into and therefore don't get the subtleties of.
I'm sure if DC had done a cover of some huge Death Metal anthem this thread would be the other way round :)
-
Btw why is every growl vocalist fat? :D
let me explain, with the help of Strong Bad:
http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail141.html ... yea, that's it :D
good death metal
Opeth.. they gotten a bit formulaic since Blackwater Park, but the formlua they got RULES! and you GOT to check their cover of Remember Tomorrow
Amon Amarth.. a bit generic and their songs tend to start sounding the same after a while, but they are excellent live.
Graveworm.. saw em live, great show, not too familiar with their songs, apart of that they like to do covers
Sceptic.. they play a cross between death and black, but tastefully done IMO
black metal.. now here i'm MUCH more picky about bands. the only one i like more than others is Satyricon, and that's because the vocals and guitars sound a touch better than most (even more so on their Now, Diabolical album). that is the major thing i hate about black metal. apart of the silly "panda bears with make-up malfunction" look, the vocals are too screechy and the guitars sound absolutelly horrible. though i must admit, Immortal are brilliant live

ROTFLMAO!
That one made my day!
I find the 6 feet under AC/DC cover......well.......humoring. If it's meant to be scary, heavy or menacing, they failed miserably. If it's supposed to be a tribute, they should be ashamed. If it's all just in good fun (tongue in cheek like AC/DC has always been), it's OK.
-

my mate gives me loads of black metal stuff, I generally don't get on with it for the same reasons you've listed above though Satyricon are great - I really like their last album and they were great live. Enslaved are really good too, their last album is surprisingly tuneful for black metal.

Some very good/talented death metal bands:
DEATH - if your talking death metal then look to the masters, listen to Crystal Mountain from the album Symbolic and tell me that's not some good shite haha.
Necrophagist - listen to Fermented Offal Discharge (gay name but the solo is breathtaking)
Nile - listen to Annihilation of the Wicked (really atmospheric egyptian feeling stuff!)
Behemoth - listen to Conquer All (great riffs and another immense solo)
Cryptopsy - listen to Cold Hate, Warm Blood (again awesome riffs and solo)
Those arn't really raw death bands mostly more technical death metal but i find it easier to listen to and there is more too it than just noise imo great guitar moments in some of them.

Iced Earth has the best AC/DC covers.
-
The Darkness' cover of Highway to hell was mighty good. Less of that Justin guy
-
iced earth and the darkness are good $%in bands. the darkness could be so much better though, they have a lot of talent.
-
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Jbpu8JMTreM
They should have the bassist singing all the time, so much better than Justin. The GnR cover in the related links is really good as well.
-
Emperor and Immortal are great Black Metal bands.
I would never listen to them myself, but that doesn't mean I don't respect them infinitely.
And not all growlers are fat or ugly, infact most aren't.
For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpdUVMddEd8
Brad Pitt can hardly be considered ugly or fat.
-
I always liked this version:

If it weren't for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCBSX0XDSVI That would be the funniest video on youtube.
Old, But I had to re-post. Actually, I think that Video is the single largest reason I can't take death metal seriously
-
The band was good, just the vocals I disagree with.
-
I'm surprised everybody's so bothered about it.
I'm not bothered at all. My comment was just a joke. It's still a BAD cover version though. ;)
In fact I think it's actually worse than this AC/DC cover (if that's possible): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FONt47Z0KZg

how does a band have two singers that good, and still aren't good? actually, i think justins a really good singer, he just doesn't know how. all he does is try to sing as high as he possibly can, when he should only be doing that rarely.
edit: i just read the latest comment on that video. the new band has the bassist singing? is it the same band without justin, or did the other brother leave too? and whats their new name?
-

Yep, Richie has now moved from bass to vocals (& guitar). Dan is still the guitarist, Ed's still the drummer and they have a new bassist called Toby MacFarlaine. They haven't announced the new band name yet, AFAIK.
I'll be interested to hear what they come up with, but I have a feeling they've had their 15 minutes. Justin could be a dick, but he was the one who gave them something extra.
-
I thought the Darkness were pretty good, at least on the first album - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=m3yqy2HIqx0

I heard this the other day and felt any remaining fairies die:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehzst4Y54OM
There are some things that should just be left alone. Do't get me wrong I like a good cover. I'll post up my version of Girls Alouds Sexy, no, no, no at some stage as it's stoopid. If you get the chance Dweezil and Ahmet Zappas version of Hit me baby one more time and Staying alive are superb..Donny Osmond vocals on SA with some superb guitarists doing solo duties..

:D It`s quite intersesting really over the years that i`ve been on the forum i`m constantly surprised at how many of you young`ens are listening to the kinds of bands i grew up with. I disagree on other threads posted on this forum players have asked for those that are into the very heavy stuff to respond & the response has allways been very small. This suggests that most of the people on this forum are into Mainstream Metal [ for want of a better word] I believe wholeheartedly that the big push for depressing Metal SOAD, Exodus etc etc was the biggest reason that Metal has been dying on its arse for the last 10yrs. TO has posted articles in the past about this decline.
Death, Black etc etc have done Metal no favours at all infact they`ve tended to play into the long held stereo types the mainstream public had about H/M. The advent of the "Cookie Monster" vocal has only helped to reinforce this view, ie any one who listens to Metal is a retard. This has made it very difficult for more "Normal" Metal bands to get mainstream deals. Which intern means Metal continues to decline. This is one of the reasons i have disliked Dragonforce. A great band with good players obviuose talent P*ss*ng it away by insisting on playing everything as fast as possible, when the truth is they could be so much more.....& better.
As for this cover.....why not all it does is show up how good a band DC are & how much fun there music is. The sad thing is it`ll be the most "Musical" thing the band probably ever plays ! And as for what constitues Death, Black, Speed Metal etc we`ve had these discusions many a time on the boards before & i still dont think any of us are convinced one way or the other or any the wiser !
Must admit loved the sheep version of Dirty Deeds LMFAO !
:D 8)
-
Fact of the matter is - There are plenty of good Mainstream metal bands, and you can find gems in any genre.
And what bands are "mainstream"? Anyway?
Trivium?..... Trivium? Are there any others?
-
:D It`s quite intersesting really over the years that i`ve been on the forum i`m constantly surprised at how many of you young`ens are listening to the kinds of bands i grew up with.
I was wondering why younger people who are deeply into music (like many on this board) prefer older music, and I think there are quite a few good reasons:
1) Variety. I have 5030 songs in my iTunes (plus that dirty deeds done with sheep video now  ) If they were all Indie and new rave, it would be unbelievably boring- plus very difficult to find 5000 songs in the genre of post-strokesy jingle jangle guitar pop. By listening to a whole bundle of rock genres from the past 50 years, and a good deal of other stuff, I can just listen to my iPod on my shuffle for hours and not get bored.
2) Quality. I don't seriously believe that music was better 20/30/40 years ago than it is now. What's happened over the last 20/30/40 years is that the average stuff has been consigned to the dustbin of history. Obviously, I wasn't there, But I bet in the late 60s, there was an abundance of bands trying to be The Beatles, The Who, The Stones, or the Hendrix experience, who have just fallen by the wayside over the last 4 decades, just like libertines-y indie bands are ten a penny now, but will have totally faded into obscurity by the time the next big scene arrives. I really like van halen, but most of the music in that cheesy 80s thread was, IMO, utter shite, even though it was pretty similiar- Boring, forgettable songs and bands have, appropriately, been forgotten. Time is a much better filter of the brill from the bollocks than the contemporary media.
3) Interest. If music is your hobby, one way or another, rather than Xbox or stabbing people, It's interesting to look through the evolution of musical styles, pick up little nicked licks and lines, copy some of the techniques yourself.
4) makes you look clever. (not a reason to be proud of, but true, let's face it). Not sure about you guys, but in my school there's a bunch of us year 11s who like to compete to find weirder and weirder bands - not just current underground acts, but stuff like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onyCiIkoffw
Any bands today releasing music like this today? not really (if there are, they are thiefs!)
-
:D Yep i agree that on the other thread about the 80`s there are loads of clips of so so bands all pretty generic & unispiring. Your right of course thats why they died without trace & only the old farts on these boards like me remember them !
My point was how surprised i am that so many of the younger guys here are so aware of so many of these bands. Its nice to see ! My point about "Mainstream" Metal was that its become far removed from were it should be & when people talk about it they allways refer to bands like Maiden, Lizzy, AC/DC, Priest etc, bands that have been established for years if not decades. I would have hoped by now there would be alot of new bands out there that the mainstream would be talking about but there not. The Darkness of course proved if nothing else that there is a big audience out there that wants talented fun guitar driven Metal with dare i say it guitar solos in & great songs you can actually walk around singing !
:D 8)

Thanks to whoever posted the Mnemic link - really liking that! :) As for the covers posted at the top, well, hey ho. It's obviously been done for a laugh, shame it's not that technically good, really...

I see what you mean - You hardly see Lamb of God on Top of the Pops (or anything else for that matter), but that doesn't mean they're not popular in the subtext. Alot of metal bands sell huge numbers of CDs nowadays - Even if they are only mentioned behind closed doors :P

Metallica had a video shown on TOTP once, some of the audience looked a bit shocked, which was good! Metal bands have always shifted huge numbers of Albums, it's always been this way really, probably more so now with the internet.
