looks like I'm heading down there next weekend, so where's best to go, especially a place with an engl fireball :)
update: 5150/6505 too

Only place I can think of is Oxford guitar center - But I've NEVER been there.
If you're going to northern london, check out Electrohill, not the biggest stock, but a lovely amp tech runs the place.
Denmark Street has the main attractions, Rose Morris has AMAZING gear but HORRENDOUS prices. World of Music is full of everything that Rockers doesn't have. Rockers is your place for Mesa, Ibanez, ESP.
Soundcontrol is pretty epic if you've never been there - There's a very supermarket sense, so if you're not used to playing in guitar shops it may be more to your type of thing.

oxford guitar gallery is awesome! great guys, GREAT gear, and it's all very friendly and boutique feeling. not really in london though...more in...oxford!
Denmark st. is the place to go for guitars in London as far as I'm concerned - it's a guitar player's dream!
-
I don't like Denmark Street, some of the guys who work in there are a bit uppity about things.
I love the guitar shop that's underneath the Virgin Megastore... I forget where it is, it's just opposite a tube station though!

Whoops, meant Wembley guitar center - It was late ><

Ok... get to Kings Cross and get a train to Hitchin and go to Machinehead Music... boooyah!
amazing.
Most shops in London are shitety and overpriced. You'll find some gems, but NOT on Denmark street
Worst is sound####!!rol
I asked this guy in Soundcontrol if they stocked Monster Cables, he said no... i said fine he then proceeded to tell me that Planet Waves were the best you could get... the best cables in the world...
BULLLLLLLL shiteE.
I don't trust them, they don't give a shite about customer service. They just want to make the sale.

SoundControl, just next to Tottenham Court tube, which is....just round the corner from Denmark St.
There's only one place there that actually sells ENGL amps, it's on the same side as Rockers, but closer to the traffic lights.

Yeah, Rose Morris, ran by nice guys, and it has a pinball machine - But don't actually expect to buy anything, the prices are outrageous.
They want £900 for a Screamer combo.

i'd also like to know if theres good guitarshop in london... i heard wembley guitar center is pretty decent as well. soundcontrol isn't bad either, sensibly priced at least.
lets keep this thread positive and avoid the whole evil denmark street thing.
there must be cool independant shops?

There's one shop in denmark street that is similar to Andy's. All second hand stuff but very cool stuff in there. Resonable prices too. I forget the name, but the shop front is bright Orange

That's Wunjos
The dudes at Vintage and Rare are great for boutique pedals - I wanted a fuzz, they made me try them all out. I didn't buy one as none sounded like what I wanted more than my cr@ppy dano French Toast and they didn't seem to mind at all.
-
That's the one, opposite Tottenham Court Road... they're in my heart because they actually stock HAGSTROM!
-
wembley guitar centre is probably the handiest, that i know of, for engl, if you're trying to get to it from central london... machinehead's a bit further out. I think one of the chandlers' shops stocks engl, at kew, but again that's a bit further out. WGC is only about 20 minutes from bond street tube stop...

Denmark St is a great place and it's got a great history too!
They have always had a few arrogant assistants in Denmark St, it's best to just ignore them and find someone who's advise you can trust, better still find out about what you want in here then try it out down there.
Don't forget Soho Sound House in Charing X Rd also Macaris.

That'll be Richard, that shops just down the road from me. Jan Cryka goes in there!

Yes it is!
And yes I am.

I would heartily recomend Electrohill also. They seem to actually care about their customers. If I still lived in london I'd be there a lot more than I have been lately. The all time best shop for customer service in the west end had to be Allbang and Strummits, sadly no longer trading. Nice people, good gear, honest advice about anything and good prices. John Gold who used to run the place is possibly one of the nicest, most honest people I have ever met. I believe he's very high up in Fender Europe now, and deservedly so.
God, that all makes me sound really old :(

Allbang and Strummit, now that's a blast from the past!
Yes Electrohill are great (They want to be a BKP dealer hint hint  )
Do you remember Gus? I think he works as a plumber now. I think Martin still works there. They do get some good stuff in there for a suburban shop.
