Title: which order on pedal board for my distorion pedals?
Post by: Klone on October 30, 2007, 09:58:19 AM
Hi All,
I have 4 distorion pedals on my board, and am not sure which order to place them. I have had some advice that they should go hi gain to low gain, but I do not know  the gain levels of each.
The pedals are.
BK Butler tube driver.
Boss SE1 Monty Allums modded.
Russian Big Muff
Electro Harmonix Metal Muff Nano.

I play a lot of Floyd and would like to use the Tube Driver to drive the Muff if possible. I have no routing on my board.

Ta muchly.

Trial and error usually works for me  ;)

Take your top two pedals and decide which order they work best in.  Then add a third pedal and see which of the possible three positions it sounds best in.  Then add the fourth and try all four positions.

It's the only way to do it.  Us muppets on here can't tell you what you'll like best  :D

Typically the one closest to the amp will keep the most of its characteristics when you use two effects symultaniously. So i always found it usefull to keep the ones i like best/use the most closest to the amp. If there is any of your effects that has a different power supply its best to try some different setups with loops since that is something which can give alot of noise. Most effects can be adapted to fit a single power supply, which is best IMO.

Another thing is when you use one of those to boost your amp, put it closest to amp, when you use a booster to boost another distortion unit, keep the distortion you want to boost closest to the amp.

Well thats about how i did it when i had several pedals and a clean amp sound.

For me,it's,from the guitar to the amp:1°lowest gain,2°more gain,3°more gain.Use your ears to know wich one has more gain.Gain is "like" distortion (in this case..);in 1°,the less agressive one (less distorted). If they are somehow equal...then,experiment.. :)

Whereabouts in Scotland you from dude?

It's go lower gain into high gain, simply enough. That's my own preferences though. It's all about what sounds best to you ;)
