Title: Ibanez JS1200 Bridge Pup Swap..Painkiller?
Post by: ftwizard on October 30, 2007, 08:02:21 PM
I've trawled through all the past threads I can cope with, and think the best idea for a final opinion is to ask.
I'm looking for a pure metal sound, great chunk, tight and crisp, with easy pinches. Will the Painkiller work in the Basswood JS1200, and will it give the sound I'm looking for
I'll be grateful for any opinions.

Cheers.

 PS.
For those of you who have heard it all before, please ignore this thread.

Painkiller will do that with knobs on.

That wasn't a put-down by the way :D

Thanks for the reply.
Do you have a Painkiller in this type of guitar?

I have a nailbomb, and it kicks ass for metal. Consider it as well.

I have a painkiller in a similarly wooded guitar (different in quite a few ways, though: its a dean Z).

It will do what you ask of it.  8)

So will a ceramic pig. That will give quite a bit more gain, too ("pure metal" makes me think "lots of gain" and the the PK is powerfull, but not that powerfull. The C-pig flays skin and breaks bones).

I must add that I always play through a pedal first, usually a Tubescreamer, so I'm not sure I need a totally mad output pickup, just something that drives with ease. It's the tightness I'm really after.
I'm pretty much old school, and my idea of Metal is anything from Lizzy to Metallica, not so much into Slayer type territory.
I'm thinking of a Painkiller because I don't want anything to smooth, I want edgy sawtooth sounds.

if you have pleanty output, want something to drive with ease, TIGHT, and want that "edgy" sound...

then you described a PAINKILLER  :D  Nailbomb a close second but it lacks the "tightness" you describe
