Post by: JRCavileer on November 05, 2007, 02:46:29 PM
First off I'd like to say i got my Mules 2 months ago and installed them into my Epiphone Les Paul, and have nothing but good things to say. There absolutely brilliant!

any who, my freind is looking to get his first guitar, i recomended he just get one of those starter packs but he is hell bent on getting the mockingbird (BC rich)

This one specificly:

what are your thoughts, good for a beginner? easy to play?

it seems like a decent guitar - reasonable price and good specs. BC Richs are always nice to play (esp. if you're a metaller). I think if you can afford it, it's always best to spend some money on your first guitar and get something decent - the thing with so many beginners axes is that they play horribly and don't look or sound cool - meaning that you're not inspired to play. Inspired is what you need to be as a beginner or else you'll get nowhere.

hmm, maybe good to get a cheap guitar first, the the guy won't be toooo gear obsessed. or maybe if he starts with a semi decent one, improving his sound won't be too much an issue...

That guitar does look nice with nice woods, if he can afford it, probably do it!

That guitar has won some awards for value for money or best buy or something. They're nicely made guitars. Fret edges might be a little sharp but that's a quick fix. It's also is a bit neck heavy.

Tell him not to waste his money on B.C. Rich trash.  The construction is always (well, maybe not ALWAYS) shoddy, though maybe all the ones i have played are cr@p-but then so many and the same problems?  There is just no getting around the fact that most of the time you can buy a better guitar for 200 less.

EDIT: If he wants a guitar to play get something worth buying with better playability, if he can afford that pricetag.  If wants to get some oddity to put on his mantlepiece get the Rich.  When you buy a Rich more than half the price tag is weighing on the looks.

I've got a few BC Rich's & definatly wouldn't call them trash.  Can't say I've ever had a problem with any of them.  If they're good enough for the likes of Slash then they're good enough for me.  :D

If they're good enough for Slash there's absolutely no reason in hell that they're good enough for me...    I don't get this argument. They can still be shite. Slash uses custom made ones and not everybody likes Slash to start with. If anything I'd stay away from anything he uses if I actually cared. They could fit him and not me.
Bad experiences with BC Rich lower imports here. I agree with the trash comments. Some of the Korean ones are ok though. Never played a US or Japanese one

I've had some very bad experiences with BC Rich as of late - They're guitars seem to feel pasticy and a bit of a joke.

That being said, they're giving out OFRs on their £500 guitars - Might be worth taking a look, but that being said, the QC has to go down the toilet to be able to afford that as a company.
