Title: Pickup spacing?
Post by: Bloodshedmisery on November 05, 2007, 09:58:27 PM
Hi, i'm planning to replace my EMGs with a set of Warpig pickups..I have an ESP Eclipse, does anyone know whether the spacing is 50mm or 53mm?

It has a tune-o-matic bridge doesn't it?  50mm most likely, but either spacing would probably be OK.

The best thing to do is measure across the strings, right above the bridge pickup, then go for whatever's closest.

It's about 51.5mm from the outside of the low E string to the outide of the high E string..so since its in the middle, which should i go for?

You're bang in the middle, so take your pick!

I have both spacings on guitars with tune-o-matics, and I don't think it makes much, if any, difference.

I'd probably say 50mm - the strings will be closer to the outer edges of the polepieces, but when you bend them they're moving over the centre of the poles, for a good strong signal.  That's my theory anyway.

If it measures 51.5mm across the outside edges of the strings, then from centre to centre its going to be pretty close to 50mm so your strings should be right over the centre of the poles with 50mm pole spacings.  Even with extreme bending there's not a huge amount of movement at the bridge anyway. but as Philly says, the difference sound wise is virtually undetectable ....just looks visually neater if everything lines up.
