this is london i suppose:
lots of overpriced nasty places
a few expensive amazing places, or cheap nasty places
but almost no reasonably priced nice places... and if they are they're full of boring financers of somekind... or really far out. and if there one of the few % that does look decent then about 20 or so other people want to live there.
meh, no luck so far.. and i'm not even mentioning the marshall amp and flying v to these people :(
will i ever find a place to live!!?
looking at gumtree.com much more than fun sites, which is a bit disturbing.

Hi
try: http://uk.easyroommate.com/
Be up front about your guitar playing, I made an advert ages ago that and I mentioned I liked to play guitar and stuff, still got lots of replies from some very reasonable places.
One thing I would mention is make sure you meet everything youre gonna live with before u move in. I made the mistake of moving in somewhere before others did and this horrible bitch ended up moving in and we ended up moving out. Go out for a pint with the people you are thinking of moving in with you'll get a good judge of character that way.
Good Luck :o

Damn right, if any potential housemates said to me, as one of the first things "Let's go for a pint", they would choice number 1. My old house mate used to shout PUB from somewhere around the house and we'd both be stood at the front door within seconds. That's the kind of house mate you need.
Good luck dude, I know how bad it can be looking for somewhere to live (nearly as bad as looking for a job). Which bit of London you after? I know a few musicial types north side of the river.

i'll give that easyroommate site a go
i'm looking at the area bounded by farringdon in the west, mile end in the east, angel in the north and the bank in the south... seems to be a pretty popular district. orginally i just looked at bethnal green, but i've widened the net.
good tip about the pub ;) maybe i'm trying to appear a bit too sensible to these people rather than the kind of guy who would come home everyday pissed at 3am and play at stage volumes for a couple of hours... which i wouldn't do anyway obviously. (or actually maybe i would if the house was empty ;) )

found a place... its a bit expensive compared to Oxford or Epsom, but I figure its London. 2 out of the 3 house mates seem nice... not to sure about the third. Nice place, great location.
i'm going to go for it...

Good man. Good luck.
Where abouts are you?

two years later and i'm back. and i won't be making the mistake of leaving this time!
change of avatar i think..
"One life I'm gonna live it up
I'm taking flight I said I'll never get enough
Stand tall I'm young and kind of proud
I'm on top as long as the music's LOUD
If you think I'll sit around as the world goes by
You're thinking like a fool cos it's a case of do or die
Out there is a fortune waiting to be had
You think I'm gonna go? You're mad!
You've got another thing coming!"

Really? I'd love to get out of London, but then I'm a lot older...
The only thing I really like about living in London is being here for the film festivals. Everything else - the overcrowding, the noise, the dirt, the horrible public transport full of loonies - I could happily do without.
-
Really, I grew up in London but then lived in Hitchin and Cambridge for a number of years - It was like entering the land of the living dead (Hitchin especially) - I couldn't wait to get back to London and I couldn't imagine leaving again.

I lived there for a bit.
I hate the $%ing place. No offence or anything.
