Engl Pro cab with vintage 30's, or Marshall cab loaded with the same speakers. Which cabs best and why?
-
The cheapest one's the best because it saves you money :)

LOL, I was thinking something similar.
Personally, I would save up for an even better cab. A little extra money on a great used cab will give you a lot more return on your investment!

That's a bit harsh TO. I'm not a fan of four V30s in a cab, but if that's what someone wants then either can will do just fine in my opinion (especially for live use).

^ True, it was typed pre-coffee.
Edited to be more friendly-like. :)

Whatever's cheapest. :)

For the money I like the oversized straight 1960TV as well as the vintage modern cab.
But I am more into greenbacks.

what type of tone are you after? the engl one is very clear and almost hi-fi sounding... great for high gain, but perhaps a bit sterile for more vintage tones (then again if you're after vintage tones exclusively, are you sure you want v30's?)...
not certain if i've tried the marshall one with v30's or not...

I'm not looking for vintage, I'm looking for a tight, focussed tone with plenty of mids. Something that my 7 string can cope with too.

Engl is a good choice in that case. Best cab IMO for all purposes is a Bogner 4x12 with Vintage 30 though.
Best is to go try one.

Diezel with K-100s.
Gosh.

agreed, trying is your best bet. I think, as you said, the engl would be good for that, but that's not to say you couldn't find better if you're prepared to look...

out of the two you originally mentioned the ENGL will be a better cab, with better speakers
-
The ENGL v Marshall..
The ENGL cabs are darker and fuller and almost wooley sounding, the Marshalls are brighter and more focused..
They both use exactly the same speaker, although I know the spec on the V30's Marshall use is slightly different to the Production V30.. but that isn't the main reason for the tonal difference.
Bogner make the best V30 loaded cabs as mentioned imo.

I've always found Bogner cabs to be shouty.
Like Hunter suggested, best bet is to try em first hand.

Bogner better than Mesa Recto cabs?
