My god. I was expecting tonight to be good, but not this damn good.
First, Iced Earth. From the very first note they captured the audience. So tight, so heavy and so bloody good. As we're all gear heads, here's what they were using.
Jon Schaffer was using two Larry heads into 4 Marshall 4 x 12's. Using a Gothic Les Paul and a Histortic 1959 Les Paul. His tone was amazing. I've never heard a better live tone. A hell of alot of clarity and huge power behind every note and chord. The other guitarist (who I don't recognise) was using two Marshall JVM's into 2 Marshall 4 x 12's, using two John Suhr guitars. Sounded good, but not as great as Schaffer.
Lamb Of God, not my cup of tea anymore. I grew out of them a couple of years back but wondered what they were like now. They were very tight and didn't miss a beat. But they bored me a little. They were entertaining in some parts but then I'd lose interest. The guitar tones were too great either. Pretty fizzy to my ears and kinda raspy. Not something I would expect from a Mark IV users as (I've used a Mark IV for recordings and it's one of my favourite amps).
Now to Heaven and Hell.
The stage set was mind blowing. It was set out like a church yard and i've never seen anything like that before. Ronnie James Dio sounded incredible. He sounds the same as he does on the old Dio albums and still has amazing stage presence. Iommi's tone was huge, not much of a fan of his lead tone, but other than that, it really filled out the sound. I only saw a few songs of these guys as my Mate and Me wanted to get home a bit early just incase the trains decided to mess us around (again).
So all in all, amazing gig, Iced Earth are amazing and so are Heaven and Hell. God yes
Been a good weekend for me. Tomorrow I go to buy a little practice amp (Liine 6 Spider III 15) and hang out with my mates and my girlfriend, Nice

Sounds good.
Had a lot of mates at that gig. Couldn't afford to go myself.

$% YES, what a gig, i am proper dead now but it was worth it hahaha. Tony Iommi is god.

saw them in brighton on sunday - great show :)
gutted to miss Iced Earth though (was having a beer in the pub next door)
what do you say to this:
i think iommi used about 3 different SGs during the show... but 'the old boy' sounded by far the best out of them. agree?
just much more rich, fluid and more iommi, and this was noticeable instantly in my opinon. i dont know if its the guitar itself, the weird pickups that are in there, or the fact hes been using it for years and knows how to get the bet out of it. man... it looks like shitee though i'd be gutted to buy a set of Gibson Iommi signature pickups and expect to sound close Iommi does in 'Reunion', based on what I saw on Sunday, that seems unlikely.

A mate of mine saw them Saturday night and said it was a good one!

He had that white Gibson with humbuckers i think which was the worst sounding, i definatley agree on the old boy though, it may be battered but it still screams like a biatch!

Saw them in Nottingham last night...
Short version. Really good, but Ozzy was better when I saw him in Birmingham.
Actually, that's not fair, and probably not accurate either. Ozzy was -ing amazing - but that was as much down to me knowing virtually all the songs he did.
I've only got 'Heaven and Hell' out of the three albums (Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumaniser) so, for me, I missed out a little. Ronnie sounded great, Toni Iommi... spent a lot of time on the other side of the stage :(, but Geezer's bass playing was fab.
My friend in Nottingham (who put me up for the night) - his first question was 'Did they do Warpigs and Paranoid?'
No. I would have happily traded the extended version of Heaven and Hell for a shorter version and, say Paranoid or maybe Man on the Silver Mountain (or anything from Dio era Rainbow)... But meh. I didn't go expecting them...

I'm so bummed -- I had a ticket for the London gig, but I kinda ended up on the wrong continent! :P Oh well! Cool to hear it rocked; wish I'd been there! I'm still trying to find a local copy of the the Radio City concert DVD locally, but no dice -- at worst, I'll pick one up when next I'm in the States.
(Iron Maiden are coming to town early next year, but tickets had already sold out by the time I arrived! Ah well ....)
