Hi all, I'm interested in swapping out my EMG 81 in the bridge of my Schecter as its not really my thing anymore. I still play a lot of metal but I'm really into Progressive/ Folk/ Gothic/ Dark styles of metal rather than Metalcore or Death Metal. So I'm looking for a pickup thats still hot but doesn't overdrive my Engl Fireball so immediately (I can't really set it on more than 9 'oclock) and is also clearer and with more clarity. I still like the tight nature of the EMG though. Oh and nice prominent mids would be good as the FB is quite scooped naturally.
ALSO the thing is I hardly ever use the neck pickup so I'm not really bothered about changing that. Can I order another cover to fit over a non-BKP pickup, just so they match?

I can't recommend a replacement for your EMG81, but I was just wondering if the neck pickup's also an EMG?
You could have a problem mixing active and passive pickups on the same guitar, unless each pickup has separate volume & tone controls - the EMGs use 25K pots, but the passive pickups would need 500K.
If that's not an issue, I'm sure BKP could provide a cover for your neck pickup, but it would be best to get them to fit it for you so it can be potted - a loose cover can cause squeal and feedback. And there might be a problem of polepiece spacing not matching.

Actually thinking about it, the neck pickup won't be a problem, and no it won't be another EMG in there. Any suggestions for the BKP Bridge though?

'Fraid not, that's one for those more Metal than me...

I checked out the songs on your myspace, as well as your influences. I'd say you need something a little more versatile than the Painkiller. I haven't tried it so I can't really speak, but as for a tight pickup with a kick in the mids and versatality for cleans too, I believe we're talking Nailbomb.

I don't need it for cleans, only the heavy stuff  but the Nailbomb doesn't sound like a bad idea except I heard it wasn't that tight? Maybe I should just email Tim after all...

Ceramic nailbomb perhaps?

Nolly! Dont overcomplicate things!
painkiller or miracle man. Both less powerfull than the 81, at least as tight, the former has more mids and better cleans, the latter has a better lead sound, less mids overall and is sharper and brigter.

Haha sorry! It's just that I'm awaiting my Nailbomb set with a ceramic bridge unit at the moment! Pin from SikTh uses the same setup I believe..
