Title: How much difference in tone...
Post by: Crazy_Joe on November 16, 2007, 09:17:18 PM
...will there be between an Electro Harmonix Big Muff and a Little Big Muff.

I hate huge pedals which is why i was going to get the Little Big Muff but i found a place that sells the two with only £1 difference in price and usually they are quite far apart in price. So is there a big difference or will i not even notice it?
I mean like in all areas e.g. which is noisier and stuff like that.

if i remember correctly, the little big muff is the exact same but in a smaller chassis with true-bypass. Yu'll have to wait for confirmation on that one though mate

The big muff has a bit of a reputation for being unpredictable as EH have always randomly changed circuits and transistor specs without notice, even within the same production run.

Try the pedals yourself, the russian model sounds different from the 'US' version (and theres variation within the russian ones too). So TBH I would not be 100% sure that the small verson sounds the same.

Try them, I have seldom found one that I didn't like but they do differ.

I prefer my own home built ones, with lower gain transistors (and tweaked diodes). I like to call it the sweet muff ;)

Don't bother with the Behringer clone it's really bad :(

Haha, i didn't even know there was a behringer clone.
I think i'll have to go try them as Kilby says, it's the only way i'll know. Though if what Indy says is true then the Little Big Muff wins hands down.

Edit: Coda and Machinehead are the only stores near me and it seems that they don't stock EHX pedals :(

Edit 2: I'm going blind, Coda do actually stock it haha.

The Muff is perceived as being a bit fat arsed, tone wise but I like them anyway.

They are also very tweakable and there are a lot of mods out there to change the tone a bit.
