Title: New amp day: Budda
Post by: hunter on November 17, 2007, 06:51:04 PM
Well I thought Shiva should be paired with Budda, so I have the full oriental myths range at home

Gotta love this little Rocker, so much fun. It's saggy and smooth, but still rings clear on each note when you hit chords on full drive - cool!

Just came home this afternoon from buying it and switched on the cam ...

P.S: I am not collecting or sth, the Diezel and Orange TT are going

Yeah man, got it for 1,300 EUR at Maxguitar in The Hague, they are dumping out all their Buddas at the moment.

I am chuffed about how much fun this is.

Great shop by the way, they have all Bogners, lots of nice guitars, too, many PRSs and Gibson Custom shop stuff etc..

3xSovtek 12ax7 (1xWB, 2xWA)
4xSovtek EL84
1xEH 5U4 Rectifier

Not gonna touch it for now ... though was wondering if I could pull 2 EL84s for half power ...

Not if it's cathode biased (which I think it is) as all four valves 'share' the cathode resistor and removing two of them will throw things off.

I know that Matamp use seperate resistors on their amps using cathode bias so that the amp can continue to run fine if one of the valves goes south.  I think they also have the cathode resistors on switches to turn certain valve combinations on/off for a range of lower power levels.

Thanks. Uhmm, still the stock ones the Edwards came with, a SD 59 and an SH-5 in the bridge. They lack complexity, but are crisp and have a good string separation.

I am still wondering which of my BKPs I should try in it. Wanted to start with the Bridge and try Black Dog (as it's a Jimmy Page Relic), Miracle Man, VHII, RebelYell.

Might start with the Miracle Man, a bit hotter seems to gel nicely with this guitar.

Awesome, but it needs to be turned up a bit for this sound.

Which reminds me ... today was the first time ever that I tested an amp in a shop and the shop owner came and turned it LOUDER while I was playing, he did it and said, "now THAT is a great sound" and smiled very convincing

Sounds like Budda would be perfect for med. There's also a lot of love for Budda over at thegearpage, and those guys tried everything.   :D

They have their own thing going that's for sure. I haven't tested it in band context yet, so that will be another one.

Hard to describe what it is that's different about them. What happened to me today was that itfelt like I was playing on rather low volume, but in fact was already quite loud.

So it can be really loud but is then still very nice to the ear and easy to play. It doesn't do those squealy highs like other amps.

I realised when I drove home that the amp doesn't have a "presence" pot, I didn't recognise or miss it while I was playing.
