Title: Single coil appearance
Post by: Pale Rider on November 25, 2007, 03:47:32 PM
Hi guys! Is it possible to order black single coils with black pole pieces?

It can happen on humbuckers but I'm not sure for single coils as I don't know if the pole pieces are magnets or just metal.

Thanks!!!

The pole pieces are magnets on singles but I can see no reason why they cant be painted/coloured black - a light coat wouldn't affect the magnetism.

I've never seen black pole pieces tho.

All you need is a black permanent marker.

black nail varnish would do the trick - it would come off but could be re-applied periodically

tim does do black slugs for humbucker but as mentioned already, the slugs in SC's are actually magnets wheraas the magnet in a humbucker is underneath the coils

As far as I'm aware, BKP don't offer this anymore - I asked for it on my Holy Diver set earlier this year, and Tim told me they stopped doing it because there were some issues with the black coating coming off. May have changed now, but that's what I was told.

So, when the hour comes I'll ask Tim all these. If it's not available, I'll use the marker. Some of them stay even on metal. ;)
