I'll soon be putting the finishing touches to a stompbox I've lashed up and was wondering what the favourite colours are for stompboxes.
It's just a plain brushed aluminium box that will have creme knobs. I was thinking a dark chocolate brown myself, but I may well be in the minority there
Anyone?
-
Bright red......
-
Totally depends on the effect itself :P
Tie die style is the best though!
Red and chrome?
Black?
-
burnt chrome like those pickup covers?

ahh, cool idea - lets see what I can do with a pair of plyers and a gas hob

ha, i wouldn't have a clue how he does those. well, i'd guess maybe a blow torch or something. probably completely wrong. throw em in the fire!

I'm quite fond of my Rick Nielsen compressor by HBE:

nice :D

I don't care what effect pedals look like. No one seems them.
-
I prefer something very bright so you can see them on a (very) dark stage situation. So anything white, red, yellow or orange or so would be fine with me.
-
I like bright colours - bright reds, electric pink, lime green, violent orange. 8)
-
A nice pale blue would be right I think.
-
I painted my swell pedal in EVH style stripes but in dayglow yellow and green... but it chipped really badly in my case. So I tried to sand it down to the bare metal... now it looks $%ING AWESOME. Ill post up some pictures when I chill the $% out for 5 mins
my advise to you is to make it look like a brick...
or cover it in ham

or cover it in ham
I heartily endorse this idea.
-
As a vegetarian I couldn't condone the use of ham in this way.
Try it with tofu ;)
-
green is never the wrong choice for a stomp box
-
My vote definitely goes to the burnt nickel effect :)

"it makes your sound more hammy"
tofu? ah, low fat and flavor (of a sort)

Go for the 80's classic of a swirl.

Failing that a fluorescent colour so that it can be seen pretty easily on a dark stage. Also good if your pedalboard has a built in blacklight so the pedals glow!!!
-
Swirls were a 90s thing
-
Oh no someone asked for colour, now you will get 1,990 different answers (as many forumites there are I think)
-
I built the delay pedal from BYOC and sprayed it glow in the dark green. Never gonna miss that on stage.
-
this totally depends on what the box is - green for overdrive, red for distortion, blue for chorus, silver for fuzz, etc.etc. it's just how it works
-
I like the colour dark blue, but having also seen the brushed aluminium offerings of a certain small pedal maker, I like the brushed aluminium, or brushed aluminium with engraved lettering best. It looks refreshingly 'business like'.

Hehe, you beat me to it!!

like this? (slightly spammy I know, sorry - I'll try harder in the future)

Hello HTH :D
Getting much closer,
( I say this in confidence - so everybody else look away )
I was thinking of the early Indyguitarist Plexdrive pedals, before they started using white powder coat finishes and adding extra decoration - or closer to your example, the way that the initial ' un-painted' limited edition MXR Zakk Wylde OD pedal ( raw metal, blue LED ) - looked.
I like rounded edges and simplicity of design. Understated is always more attractive to me.
If anything, I like the sound of your boxes just as they are, brushed aluminium with creme knobs - a real touch of ' vintage ' in my books.
( although I do love Blue LEDs ) .
I always think that pedals and amps are like good quality clothes or cars, the variations and fads come and go, but the classics always look good.

tolex it

tolex it
done that, I'll see if I can dig out a picture of the leopard-skin one I did, REALLY bad taste
-
Found it, here you go - totally bad taste, but it was just a bit of a laugh...
-
greatest thing i have ever seen.
i thought it'd be cool to have it match your amp, i guess depending on what your amp looks like.
-
That leopard skin pedal will surely get Billy Gibbons on the telephone ordering 6 of 'em 8)
The only 'out there' option I liked ( seen on the Telecaster Discussion Forum ) - was a white ' Cherry Drive' pedal with one of those 1940's pin up girls and a ' cherry ' LED. There is a thread in the 'stomp box' section on the topic of " coolest pedal ? " you might find interesting.
I'll try and attach the picture I saw...
-
I want one :P
does it actually sound any good :P
