Title: Voodoo Witchdoctor 10 watt
Post by: Illini_Inn81 on November 28, 2007, 11:17:03 PM
Has anyone played on a Voodoo Witchdoctor amp??  If so, I was curious if you could shed some light on how they sound.  I have been hearing some good things about them but would like to get some more opinions.  Thanks.

Can you describe the distortion, does it sound more like a Marshall, Mesa, etc.???  Are you currently playing one??

I've had 2 witchdoctor amps-one that is now the production model and one of the original amps based on an old Fender.I bought the original amp just from hearing the Voodoo sound samples and must say I was bitterly disappointed. In my opinion it wasn't very high gain at all and for my tastes I found it quite useless.I sold it ( to a bloke who now uses it as a harmonica amplifier!!) and bought a jcm900 head to use instead-far better tone. The witchdoctor combo at cleanest is a muddy clean if you see what I mean.

When I received the amp it needed 2 new tubes and an afternoon of fettling to get rid of the 60hz hum and after looking at the circuit I couldn't see what you get for the money.

The production combo is better and the high power head version is better still.

My advice (for what it's worth) is if you don't want a head, go for a Marshall combo instead or at least try it before handing over your cash.
