Guy: "Ok, focus."
Chick: "I'm listening to what you're saying, but I only hear what I want to."
Guy: "That's.. just called.. being a woman."

The man is a prophet!

And that chick should be tarred, feathered, and then shot just for being dumb

I have to admit I'm kind of fond of Kellie Pickler... but she is as dumb as a stump.

The host (is it Jeff Foxworthy?) doesn't exactly cover himself in glory by pronouncing Hungary as if it doesn't have an "A" in it.

At least the little kids seem to know the answers.

I'd like to say she's a one off, but unfortunately I used to work with a lass just as stupid.

* She wouldn't eat Tuna because she thought it was Dolphin (like Bacon coming from Pork)

* She believed the Victorians didn't have sex (ever, not even for procreation)

... and MANY, MANY more.

It worries me that people like this exist. Makes me want to shoot myself because they are becoming more and more frequent.

Unfortunately it's not just Americans though found this a few weeks back:

"LOTTERY scratchcard has been withdrawn from sale by Camelot - because players couldn't understand it.

The Cool Cash game - launched on Monday - was taken out of shops yesterday after some players failed to grasp whether or not they had won.

To qualify for a prize, users had to scratch away a window to reveal a temperature lower than the figure displayed on each card. As the game had a winter theme, the temperature was usually below freezing.

But the concept of comparing negative numbers proved too difficult for some Camelot received dozens of complaints on the first day from players who could not understand how, for example, -5 is higher than -6.

Tina Farrell, from Levenshulme, called Camelot after failing to win with several cards.

The 23-year-old, who said she had left school without a maths GCSE, said: "On one of my cards it said I had to find temperatures lower than -8. The numbers I uncovered were -6 and -7 so I thought I had won, and so did the woman in the shop. But when she scanned the card the machine said I hadn't.

"I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it.

"I think Camelot are giving people the wrong impression - the card doesn't say to look for a colder or warmer temperature, it says to look for a higher or lower number. Six is a lower number than 8. Imagine how many people have been misled."

A Camelot spokeswoman said the game was withdrawn after reports that some players had not understood the concept.

She said: "The instructions for playing the Cool Cash scratchcard are clear - and are printed on each individual card and in the game procedures available at each retailer. However, because of the potential for player confusion we have decided to withdraw the game."

More than 15m adults in Britain have poor numeracy - the equivalent of a G or below at GCSE maths

Almost three times as many UK adults (15.1m) have poor numeracy - the equivalent of a G or below at GCSE maths - than with poor literacy skills, according to the government's Skills for Life survey.

Peter Hall, of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics, said: "The concept of minus numbers is something we would cover with 11 or 12 year olds, and we would expect them to have come across it before.

"The concept of smaller numbers is something that some people do seem to struggle with. Seven is clearly smaller than eight, so they focus on that and don't really see the minus sign. There is also a subtle difference in language between smaller - or lower - and colder. The number zero feels lower.

"There have always been some people who find numbers and basic mathematics difficult. Maybe in the past it was less noticeable because people could find jobs they could excel in without having qualifications in maths."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love how she tries to make it look like they weren't clear about the higher / lower numbers, temperature is irrelevant, -8 is still lower in numerical value than -6, dumb bitch, lol!!!

I like the 'I'm not having it' part - I've always noticed that the thick scum of the UK are always marked by their sheer and utter arrogance.

Sweden had the right idea when it had a mass programme of sterilisation for thick people.  If only we could do that - it would mean that in 30 years you could go to the pub on a Friday night without fear of the lumpen proletariat causing trouble :D

Those are pretty scary statistics, but I'd be interested to see them in context - how they compare with other developed nations.  And with the UK 20, 30 or 40 years ago, for that matter.

Oh, would just like to add, I've nothing against Americans, lol. It just seemed like it has all been Americans being covered so far. I'm sure if you walked around certain places in England you'd get the same if not worse results, heh. I can think of at least 3 areas in Exeter where you'd find people as dumb as that. Good ones!

When i was visiting the U.S (where else could it happen), I got asked if Finnish
is English but with a different accent.........WTF????
If the concept of there being multiple languages in the world isn't sinking in you should not have the right to open your mouth.

What really bothers me about that Kellie Pickler klip is that she is rewarded for being so IGNORANT, whats all this "you could drop out now and keep 10k$? If your that ignorant you should be beaten with a stick and then be taken to a library and forced to read a book, geography would be nice and physics so that we could finally put an end to such moronic ideas like creationism, intelligent design and all of this nutjob whacco stuff thats being presented as the truth to these poor people just like Kelly, then its time to vote and they do so because they are told to do so, and their leader pretty much tells them whom to vote for......and here we go again..........I don't even have words to describe this situation we're in living on this planet......geeeez.

I have a fairly good idea what the problem is with stupid people on this planet, but my opinions and those of Terence McKenna are fairly controversial and likely to stir up some haters, hehe.

Before I say this I'd like to point out that I in no way like manmade drugs (such as E, cocaine, heroine etc...) or like the idea of drug use, but in Terence McKenna's book "Food of the Gods" he makes a lot of sense about some natural and un-tampered substances....

Basically, when the world got westernised, we basically lost Shamanistic societies who now only exist in small pockets across the globe. I was sceptical but I have to believe that we stopped evolving and started getting dumber when humans made certain Mushrooms and other psychedelic plants Taboo.

I'm not going to even try and explain this the way he does, as I'm really nowhere as intelligent, but basically there are chemicals in psychedelics and hallucinogenics (natural, untampered with ones) that break down certain thought barriers chemically in your head and make your thought process more open to other ways of going about things. There are certain periods in history where Apes and "Neanderthals" have gone through amazing spurts of progress in less time than it should have taken, and some research shows that certain plants etc were present in their diets and rituals at these times.

There ya go, a different take on things, hehe. One wonders if we should all conspire to plant some extra ingredients in certain world leaders drinks one day and see them all come to some kind of sense and stop all the stupid stuff they do.

Wow. What started out as a dumb-ass bashing thread may have taken an intellectual turn!

(Back to silly Nadzilla now...) I reckon we should get all the dumb people on the planet and dump them on a big island in the middle of the Ocean and make them go Gladiator style with each other, heh. That dumb people sterilization idea sounds fairly cool. D'oh! That's me stuffed then!

If anyone is interested, it has some great science, theories and messages in it, it's called "Food of the Gods" by Terence McKenna. It's also kinda his way of screaming "WAKE UP!!!" at the world in regards to the current environmental crisis that has started gripping the planet. So it's effects are multiple and although I need a Thesaurus next to me when I "attempt" to read it, I get the general gist and it's a fairly refreshing read.

:D If i remember correctly Terence McKenna`s work has been discredited by every scientist, Sociologist, Economist, Cleaning lady & lunatic as being total & utter bollocks believed only by idiots & fantasists. I could be wrong of course !

What drugs were the inventors of modern medicine taking then ? what drugs were Einstein taking when he came up with the equation E=MC2 ? If you get more intelligent taking drugs then how come most of the young generation dont have brains enough to tie up there own shoelaces & yet constantly take as many drugs as possible ? This falls into the search & believe of  Atlantis being the host of modern civilization or that Space men visited south America 1000yrs ago !

I see what your saying, as I said I'm skeptical too. Apparently (and this is something I intend to read more into, as this subject fascinates me as an anti-drugs kinda person) a lot of super intelligent people back in "them days" were usually on something. I even heard that on top of his ADHD, Einstein did some form of psychedelic now and then too.

It's all the wrong drugs, and it's too much too, heh.

From personal experience, I have a friend who has been a bit of a naughty boy, but he is also fairly intelligent and grounded and likes things to be solidly based in scientific proof. He's used mushrooms a few times and has always said it's "tweaked" his awareness of everything around him up a few notches, and just given him that extra broad kind of mental vision.

I think what people are getting at is that used in moderation, literally just to give that "tweak" that he was on about just gives scientific minds that little extra hook on thinking about things.

Although this is also coming from the guy who, going past the "tweaking" phase and taking a few too many saw sprites attacking his car, so make of it what you will.

I can't claim to know anything much about drugs, never having smoked a cigarette let alone anything more exotic.  However, I suspect it's all a matter of perception - like when you've had a few drinks and don't think you're acting drunk.  Oh, hello officer, evenin' all...

People on hallucinogenics may think they're in a state of enhanced mental awareness, but from my outsider's perspective, they either look totally zonked out or they're giggling like tw@ts.  I may be wrong, but I don't think they're going through a process of accelerated evolution.

i recently had a conversation with a girl in her mid twenties.  i'm not sure how this came up, but anyway, she thought the second world war lasted about six months, happened in the early sixties and was fought entirely in France. "That's why Paris is all new buildings" she said.  Paris, of course, managed to survive the war pretty much unscathed!  that's the war that lasted from September 1939 to August 1945.  Across most of Europe, Asia and the Pacific.  just in case anyone wasn't sure

(yes, the Asian part started earlier, for anyone that wants to argue, but i think Germany's invasion of Poland is generally considered as the beginning of WWII)

oh, she's never heard of the concentration camps either, and thought Hitler was a fictional character from a film.

she was thick in plenty of other ways too, but i think that's enough for now.

:D We live in a world wear how we look is regarded as far more important than what we no. Education & intelligence are not highly regarded or even sadly rewarded in this society. This means that even basic things most of the rest of us would take for granted are now becoming rare. The young blonde American woman probably lives in a world where what she wears & how her hair looks & does she look like this film star, model, TV personality is far more important to her than anything else. She was only interested in being on TV because she thought it would make her famous it has but not for the right reasons. Its a sad state of affairs for our modern world i`m afraid. Still at least i`m on a forum that has thankfully intelligent human beings making for a far more interesting world !  :D

a funny but really depressing test is to ask people around you what temperature water boils or freezes, you are going to be really surpriced how many people do not know the answer. I always thought that is common knowlegde, but it isn't.

sorry to shite on you two but the boiling and freezing points of water are not always the same. The measurement is of distilled water and under controlled conditions. Impurities in the water and environmental factors can all affect these processes.

And 'no' as in knowledge should always be spelt with 'K--W'.

Well now you're just being pedantic!

We are talking about simpletons though, so even they should be able to throw a guess at 100 degrees etc as per the first classroom lesson on the subject, but some can't even manage that. It's very sad.

Better include air pressure in the list of variables, thats one of the techniques they use produce instant coffee as it dosn't (allegedly) damage the flavour the way boiling @ 100C would. (though for most instant coffees it removes the flavour instead)

Rob...

PS I have given up on spelling and grammar on interweb, partially due to the number of non native english speakers (putting me to shame) but mostly due to native english speakers who can't spell (or put 3 words together)

My son did an 'exchange' year in Fullerton University in California (some poor bar steward had to spend a year in Swansea University in exchange  :( ).
Even at that level of education he was amazed at the lack of general knowledge about Europe - typical comment from classmate.."Europe, don't they speak Spanish there?", "Isn't Europe part of France?"

P.S Useless info - Fullerton is where Leo Fender started the Fender company. Unfortunately my son did not have time to show me the Fender museum when I visited him... but made up for it by taking me to the Mumbles when he got back to Swansea   (and of course the student union bar)

Probably, the majority of people are pretty thick. Look at what people like to watch on TV, or what kind of music people listen too or how they vote. (I'm not even going to mention religious dogma's people believe.)

I don't think that those that appear to be totally stupid when asked the freezing/boiling points of water are actually standing around thinking "well actually, it depends on air pressure and impurities in the water, and does he want the temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin? Is it worth mentioning that water can become gaseous below 100c, or remain liquid above it? should I embark on an engaging tale on the importance of van der Waal interactions and Hydrogen bonding allowing water to be a solid, liquid or gas across a relatively small range of temperatures, and therefore playing a crucial part in the development of life on earth?"

no.
they are thinking, "how am I supposed to know?" and "what has this got to do with football?"

hmmm... I'm sure that most of the french audience was only joking about the sun orbiting the earth- but it does worry me that that was a £2000 pound question.

:D Your right of course my spelling is appalling. I make no bones about it but it doesn`t change my point of view. It also doesn`t affect my intelligence level. My point / comment was that in this day & age education isn`t regarded particulaly highly. Its also not financially rewarding either all this has helped to kill off the aspiration culture & has helped drive the celebrity culture. So now all we get is F**kwits all over the TV making huge sums of money & most cant walk & chew gum at the same time. This is what most young people now see as being important ie, how do i look, i must be on the TV etc etc. The young lady on the original clip is unfortunately typical of this obsession in our culture.

How about an equation some of these dumb people will understand...

vast numbers of highly unintelligent people
+
compulsory voting in federal elections
=
Prime minister Kevin Rudd  :)

Actually, while I think of it, my sister turned 18 this year and voted in the election (PS, we live in Australia) and while she was at the polling booth, she overheard 2 girls talking:

Girl 1: I think I'm going to vote for the Greens
Girl 2: Oh ok... why's that?
Girl 1: It's my favourite colour.

Well, its clear, that you can get different results by changing the environmental facs, but there is a quite common answer that they teach you at school. Which is, talking in °celsius, 0 for freezing 100 for boiling. And its not "depends on how high you turn up the oven" or things similar.

that isn't what I said. The boiling and melting points of distilled water are as taught in basic primary school science lessons ('yay; another chance to look at some water' method of teaching.) But variables such as impurities and air pressure change this. This is why you can use salt to de-ice your drive in winter and in the chill of space your blood would literally boil out of you (if you didn't explode first; hence the pressurised suits).

hmmm - reminds me of all those secondary school science lessons i have helped out in with the special eduational needs kids.  hard classes to control but always very excited to get the chance to boil some water, we must have literally timed how long it took water to boil a few hundred times!!!

In comes the scientist. Ultra pure water turns to ice at around -40˚C. Boiling is all about pressure. So altitude affects boiling points greatly. But yes it is around 100˚C at sea level, and 68˚C ontop of Everest.

Out of curiosity, at STP (standard temp and pressure) room temperature is taken to be 25˚C, that's really warm! A hot room is usually ~23˚C, for this pasty Scottish person anyway...

I saw an article in a backpacking mag in Australia about the questions Australians get asked by US tourists. A few that I remember were, 'Do you have supermarkets in Australia?' 'Can you get fresh milk in Australia?' 'Does the Sydney Harbour Bridge go to New Zealand? And one I got asked personally by what has to be the thickest woman I've ever met in a backpackers on Christmas Day, Melbourne was, 'Do English people get suntans?'

Anyway, yes thick people drive us all mad but the scary thing is the amount of them, or as the reasons that have been posted, Big Brother, Celeb pleb culture, X $%&#ter is the limit of their awareness. I even find that some people, think playing the guitar as a hobby as 'weird' :? Or choosing not to breed and add to the population as 'weird' Let's face it fellas we're devolving as a species on the whole. I know Primary teachers in London and their telling me that gang culture is now creeping into 8-10 year olds and are assaulting teachers.

Anyway I don't want to rant in here!

Some local moron (chav) attempted to chat up my daughter on Friday night, by showing her a video of him headbutting the shutters of a shop. Needless to say she was more than a little unimpressed.

On a slightly more serious note,

I was once told by a member of Easyjet check in staff that as a foregn national that I was legally required to carry a passport with me at all times.

Apparently Northern Ireland no longer part of the UK and is a foregn country !

So such stupidity is not limited to Americans and the chav community. Lets say that the exchange ened up with me being removed from Stanstead, by 2 equally unintellegent members of Sleazyjet staff

Thank christ the Met officers where sleeping or it may have been another foiled terrorist plot

Heh,
work sent me up to Glasgow (from London) and I didn't have a passport with me, and they refused to accept my NI driving license (it's a full UK license, but it was one of the photo ID ones (NI had them long before England, Wales & Scotland).

Anyway I was told my ID was invalid, and I couldn't have my ticket :( not only that she also stated that it was illegal for me to board a plane (or ineed travel) in the UK without a passport !

After pointing out to her that infact there was no legal obligation and that it was simplay an Easyjet policy she started to get unpleasent and stated that a foreign national must have a passport with them at all times !

Anyway after arguing with her for several minutes (and guessing I wasn't getting onto the plane) I asked if she had her passport with her. She was rather confused about this question, and asked why. at which point I informed her that she must be from Stupidland and that she really ought to return and lead her home country back into the dark ages.

At that point 2 of her coworkers ran behind the partition sniggering (at her I hope). A few minutes a copule of  (supposidly male) Oompa-Loompas (see note for non UK readers) turned up and removed me from the airport.

Anyway my boss wasn't pleased, when I arrived into Canary Wharf instead of the Glasgow offive

* Theyre known as Oompa-Loompas cos the Sleasyjet company colour is orange, and in addition they suffer from the worst permatans known.
