Title: MQ hotness
Post by: Yamhammer on December 02, 2007, 08:56:39 PM
Guys,

I've recieved a Mississippi Queen neck pickup and I have a question about it:

Will it be hotter than the Stormy Monday?

Well my SM neck pickup (AII) is 7.5K - but I'm not sure if they're normally quite that hot(?).

Of course, as we all know, the DC resistance doesn't tell the whole story.  I've never actually tried a MQ to compare.

I think the fact that the MQ is only one coil is also relevant, no idea on what level though, as a hot single coil is about 12K ?

I'd install it and see. My MQ is A5 and is awesome for solo's and cleans up so very nicely.

DC resistance is sometimes misleading.

Thanks for all the help guys.

It's making me a bit nervous because I've never owned a P-90 before in one of my Les Pauls...

I wouldnt be stressing on the DC difference, remember you have a handwound pickup, so you can expect small differences. I dont think it would be any differently wound though small variables can easily make up for 0,5k resistance.

Don't worry about it.  P-90's have 2 alnico magnets in them and have a huge sound.  I have one with a Warpig and one with a Crawler and they both balance fine.
