Right, I was reading Guitarist and BKP's were mentioned in the "long termers" section where they're using a PRS SE One. The pickup was dull and lifeless and so was swapped out for a BKP91 and I think I read somewhere else in the same magazine about a MQ being well overwound to almost double the output.
Anyway, that got me thinking.
Would it be possible to alter, in some way, a standard dog-ear P90 (like the ones found on Les Paul Jrs.) to have a more humbucker-esque output? The hum-cancelling? The uber output, etc... but contained within a soapbar/dog ear case?[/url]

The Gibson P-100 is a stacked hum-cancelling P-90 soapbar like you describe, so yes it's possible. Needs a deeper pickup cavity though.
The Billie Joe Armstrong signature LP Junior has a stacked P-90 in a dog ear if I remember correctly...

Aahh so it might not be possible to just do a quick in-out?
Wahey. Quick in out.
Yeah, the BJA geetar has a "stacked double coil P90" in it.

It depends on the guitar and the routes it has in it....

Duncan do a stacked P-90 as well.
And DiMarzio have several models which are scaled down side-by-side humbuckers in P-90 covers (with 12 visible polepieces). Some are meant to sound like P-90s, others are versions of regular DM humbuckers (Tone Zone, Super Distortion) for P-90 guitars. They don't do them with dogear covers though.
None of them, including the P-100, really sound like P-90s, unfortunately. I like hum-cancelling Strat and Tele pickups, but you can't beat a "real" P-90. I just have to live with the hum, it's part of that raw tone.

I could've sworn I saw a double-row'd P90... Queens of the Stone Age, one of Troy's signature Yamaha's had one in the bridge. I knew I wasn't seeing things!

Probably a Yamaha Q100, which DiMarzio make for them. It's based on the DiMarzio DLX Plus Neck model.

Excellent, cheers bud.
