Hi there
I just picked up a strat single coil BKP and would be grateful for some help in identifying which set it comes from, and which position I should use it in.
A multimeter in DC mode gives a reading of 6.4 Ohms
The pole pieces are staggered and have a bevel
Looking at your website Tim, I think it's an early Sultans' Pickup
I've attached a photo, if it's any help !
Thanks in advance
Chris

It is a sheilded cable with one core, the sheilding is attached to the copper wire coil and the single core is soldered to the other side.

It's a bridge pickup...red dot!

Just checked a Sultan bridge I have here - it's 6.5
Sultan could be right

Thanks HJM
What happens if i place it in the neck position ?
-
It'll be a touch hotter, than standard, but I can't see it being too much of a problem - there a touch hotter in the bridge to help balance levels in a set of 3 singles.

I think it is RWRP too - there is a black dot. Mind you if someone changed the wire, who knows which way the screen and live are connected. You can check if it is reverse polarity by putting it over one of your other pickups (top to top). If they attract it is reverse, if they repel it is the same.
Not sure how you test the winding direction, other than wiring it in with another pickup. If it is RP, if you get the wiring right it will be hum cancelling and have a strong tone. If it is very weedy and out of phase, reverse the screen and core wires and try again.

I've looked at the pickup again Phil and the black dot in the photo isn't really there. Must be a trick of the camera flash light.
I checked the poloarity of the magnet and it was repelled by my neck and
bridge pickups in a strat, and attracted to the middle
Thanks for the tips guys.
Looks like I've been given a Bridge pickup from a Sultan's Set :D
