My vote goes to...
I can't get past world #2, though.
-
i call Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat
shame only it's so short :S had it been twice as long, it would be the game of the decade.
-
Probably homeworld or supreme commander for me.
FPS's are entertaining, and I particularly like both far cry and crysis, but RTS is where its at.

+1, it's just oh sooooo good.
-
I don't like Mario games. After SMB they sort of ran out of decent ideas so we ended up with a water cannon and that bloody Galaxy game.
I'm not going to get into any debate as to who is better (other platform game serials are bound to be mentioned soon).
Conker is similar but I prefer it because it has a sense of humour beyond a communist going down the drain whilst on a mushroom trip. That is a value judgement and cannot really be discounted.
I've always preferred (good) FPS to platformers.
Anybody remember the original Gex for 3DO/Playstation
-

Yeah, Homeworld was great, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 were also favourites of mine. I spent months with BG1 - I had to use a vocabulary as I'd just started learning English at school... I picked up hundreds of new words and phrases I wouldn't have learnt at school.
-
City of Heroes.
This game totally rocks .... I haven't looked at or bought any other game since I got it ... and that was 2 years ago :D
-
Guildwars and the Diablo series before that i played most, dont have alot of time to play anymore om afraid......
-
I always liked Chaos Engine on my Amiga.
No time for video games anymore...
-
The Final Fantasy series, anyone?
-
I like the Elder Scrolls series, Morrowind is great. My computer isnt good enough to run Oblivion but I may get it for the 360 some time. Am getting Assassins Creed and COD4 for xmas so hopefully they'll be good :)
Not sure what I'd say the best ever is, but Goldeneye 64 is a classic. I really liked the Commandos series as well, I never completed more than 2 levels on Commandos 3, it was stupidly hard.
-
I'll say Quake. There was a Red Baron game back in the early 90's that was a lot of fun. :)
-
Ah, remember the days when games had points???
My favourite old school jam is still DEFENDER II; my son and I have an ongoing competition between Defender II, Paperboy, Gauntlet II, and Robotron.
-
the best game of all time is Donkey Kong Country 2 - Diddy's Kong Quest. I don't care what anyone says; it's INCREDIBLE
-
Too many to pick just one, but myn would be something from the Sega Megadrive!
-
Everyone knows Streets of Rage was the best megadrive game....or was it sonic... or was it street fighter 2... oh my god, it could even have been the lion king!?
-
Has to be Elite for me, the first game I really got into. Honourable mention to FF though for many enjoyable hours since.

What game is that from? its some dodgy translation :D
I don't really like the new games, its to deep, and real, sega megadrive is cool, my emulators won't work on vista it seems yet :(
now I occasionally do work in free periods, or play cards

Streets of Rage 2 was the shite.
-
The original Castle Wolfenstein was a great game. Back in the green screen days.
-
I've actually got Streets of Rage 2 on my 360 :P Its so fun to play multiplayer.
-
Super Metroid for the snes.
Can't beat it.
-
Another classic. :D

Anyone remember the good old 90s PC games?
Duke Nukem
Duke Nukem 2
Jazz Jackrabbit
Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Commander Keen series
Jetpack
Wolfenstein 3D
Hocus Pocus
ohhhh so many treasures
-
:D Nice topic !
For me, Cannon Fodder was a hoot. Quake 2 kept me amused for hours. FarCry was simply outstanding but to long, Half Life 2 rocked as did Baldurs Gate 1 [ in some ways this RPG has never been beaten, But if i`m pushed then i`d have to jump for Oblivion. I lost 6 months of my life on that & didn`t get anywhere near completing it ! :P

For me it would be Neverwinter Nights - and it is also the most value due to the fact you can download hundreds of modules. I got it when it came out and i'm stil playing it now.
-
As far as online multiplayer games go - i know thousands of people love Counter Strike and CS:Source, but for me Medal of Honour : Allied Assault is the best multiplayer game around. My brother and i have played it almost every day for many years, and it still amuses us to no end. (and yes, we are very VERY good at it - my brother holds the record - 83 kills in 10 minutes)

ECCO THE DOLPHIN FTW!!!

haha you woman.
However, it was strangely satisfying swimming free through the deep blue waters, and jumping up out of it with such style and grace...

You know what I'm talking about man.... 8)

Best game I played recently was Portal, really cool concept.
As for greatest game of all time, Ultima Online? Quake 1? Its a toss up between those two as they both hold very fond memories for me being 16 years old and the internet had just come out back in 96, I know online gaming is so common now but these games revolutionary. Kind of nice to have been able to experience that, nothing even comes close anymore.
-
Portal is great and made even better by the song at the end - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RthZgszykLs :P
-
Portal's alrleady become a thing of Legend.
ECCO THE DOLPHIN FTW!!!

What a game!
-
Only one mention of Robotron. I'm slightly disgusted.
-
Oh, speaking of classic old school games -- anyone ever play KLAX? Addictive gameplay and very deep strategy for such a simple game, technologically speaking.
-

-

Haha, yeah, the dwarf with the axe pwned everybody else in that game. Too bad he couldn't jump as far as the girl.
-

I'm thinking about buying a Megadrive from ebay now, they're only about a tenner and so good :P
-
Goldenaxe is the shite, gotta love the Dwarfman! But the woman had the most magic (i think), i might go play it right now haha.

http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4-/1125504/-/Product.html?searchstring=mega+drive&searchsource=0
-
i got that on psp. it's good but not just the same as using the actual console!
-
True, true... nothing compares to those god-awful Mega Drive controllers and squinting to see Streets Of Rage. :D
-
For real real old games Pac Man is still king, followed by Defender - but Berserk is worth a look if you can find the MAME 32 rom for it on the net. I remember playing it when it came out for as long as my coins held up.
-
Obivion 360
Grim Fandango PC

As a modern video game hater (because they are all so hard I suck at them), the simpsons game on xbox 360 kicks ass! played it all yesterday at a mates, and almost finished it. honestyl so cool. trying to shoot a large lard lad in the arse with a catapult is just funny :D
-
Arkanoid
Golden eye n64...but got to be 4 player game *L* very drunk and in student digs(also snowboard kids n64)
-
I got Assassins Creed for xmas and its such a good game, running across the rooftops as you escape from the scene of a crime is so fun :D Probably not the best game ever but its really good.
-
I reckon my all-time choice for best game ever, in terms of nostalgia and gameplay, will always be Wizball on the Commodore 64. Sensible Soccer on the Amiga was also a massive massive part of my young life. :)
I don't have a console or a game-capable PC myself these days, so the only game I play regularly is KSirtet (Tetris clone); but sometimes at my brother's house I'll be dragged into an hour or so of Winning Eleven or EA Skate when the guitars get put away and the beers come out.
-
I've lost a lot of my life to games, I'm not going to try to say best ever, but here are the ones that have eaten the most hours.
EverQuest I & II
World of Warcraft
Oblivion
Lego Star Wars II
Elite (on the C64)
-
I can't beleive I haven't seen Golden Axe mentioned anywhere. Now that game was absolutely mint.
A friend of mine at university could complete the arcade version on one life...
