popped into croydon on saturday and picked up this flying v from a certain custom guitar maker. i've decided to call it 'number 7' - my 7th, last and best flying V. Lonnie Mack called his V the same, although his was the 7th V ever built in 1957.
its a nicely heavy, with a manly chunky maple neck. the sycamore body has a powerful mid-range, i notice my gordon smith V with the same wood has a similar property. i'll never buy another v, but if i do i'll be looking out for a sycamore body.
old stock from jonathan, not custom made for me. although if it would have been, i dont think i would have asked for much different, maybe a different colour... although frankly i've no idea what i'd ask for in a custom anyway :)
its chunky and not particularly fast, but this V has the most addictive neck on any guitar i've ever played, could hardly put it down all weekend. suits me very well. earvana nut seems cool actually - one can easily notice the improvement.
played the 'painkiller v' as well. very tasteful, but quite different to this one, hope someone buys that who appriciates it.
stole some pics from the feline site.

maybe its not my last.. i'd love a spalted maple one still.
kudos again to the neck of this guitar - not a fret buzz anywhere.
-
It goes up to 11. *thumbs up*

Love that Vee gwEm, very nice.
Didn't see that one when I popped into the shop, but I had a little noodle on the Painkiller Vee. That was very nice.
My favourite Feline guitar is Tim's Explorer. PDT_010

classic looks & style, what have you got in there?

Veeery nice!
But there are no cateyes on the 12th fret?

Didn't take long to change your mind!
Lovely guitar, I've seen that one many times on the Feline website but not in the flesh. Didn't realise what woods it was made from though.

obviously wouldn't say no to an oldie like a medallion someday if i ever become rich... i think i have a V problem, maybe i should seek professional help :)

thank god considering the nice deal jonathan was offering!

500Ts, and they sound balanced. sycamore body gives more pokey midrange than they did in my gibson. might put cold sweats or miracle men in there when my bank account recovers.
But there are no cateyes on the 12th fret?
sad indeed, but its somehow good as i won't get distracted. if i want to big up jonathan, i'll just have to shove the headstock into peoples faces :) its a big boy guitar, and outshines me as a player. i think you'd like it hunter.

I'd love to see a picture of the "gwEm stable" with all 7 on show.
I hope one day to get me a silverburst Vee. I've always wanted one of those.... :D
-
Very cool, but where did you buy it from?! PDT_008
-
Oohhh I saw that on the Feline website the other day. That is a $%ing steal for that price, compared to the equivalent Gibson you could get for the same amount of cash.
*covets*

was walking through croydon town center and this dodgy geezer stepped out of an dark alley with a guitar case under his coat. "want to buy a pukka V mate?" he said. i reckon i got proper skanked... looks like a rebadged stagg with a go-faster stripe.
(sorry jonathan!)

Even the most amateur player could tell both this and my '81 Greco are both nicer than my Gibson. Having said that the Gibson is still a very fine guitar, I think it will get better over the years... Nevertheless I still have a massive soft spot for my '58 Epi, its a shame, but playability-wise its been out classed by the Feline and the Greco.

Giz a peek at the V-Family then...

Lovely.
Nice work Jonathan.

I was happy to see it go to a good home ....
It's a great guitar, but has been a bit undiscovered compared to a few of the other items we have had, so gwEm got a great deal
We have a few other gems lurking in the closet that I am only too happy to do deals on- really great guitars that play like a bomb and have inspired a few custom orders but haven't left the stable themselves.
I'm keen to move some of them to free up some space & money,so that whilst I am not doing the London Guitar Show next year it will allow me to make some really tasty pieces for the new collection
Always worth bending my ear over if you see something that you like.

^ are they all on the website?
-
How about a spring clearance sale... say mid April when I start working
-
Those knobs are the icing on the cake.
-
very nice! :)
-
i wonder about changing those knobs for amber bell knobs to give that 'les paul standard' look... but i can't find any that go to 11.

Must be a week for it as I had to part company with "My precious " last night
A customer snapped up the Korina lion - the turquoise one.

Wah! I have to build myself another now.......
-
Damn, I love looking at that thing. It's too pretty to play.
-
Already have plans for a new version and it will be trans purple !
Similar in colour to this maybe:

That colour is absolutely incredible. It really is. And my god the cap on that guitar is droolworthy, I'm drowning over here!
And, for the record, I think that headstock suits the LP-shape of guitar a lot better.
-
V-ery nice lol.
-
hey you yngwie lookalike... what the hell is this? selling my fav guitars left and right!
you'll be getting a phonecall from me real soon-like.. i mean it!
maybe even before new year, considering a round horn V shaped type guitar.
congrats on the sales and you too G, you got a kickass guitar! i really liked it when i played it :D
-
I am sure gwEm's search for Vs is not over as he showed me 3 today that he was rather keen on, I'm sure he'll talk about them later.
Also important to note is he told me how pleased he is with his Feline and the great service Jonathan gave him.
-
That is a very nice V you have there. Me likes 8)

sometimes its nice to play a slightly rough and ready guitar and extract a bit of passion, and other times you want to be mothered with a guitar which almost plays itself. tonight was the case for the later.
did some work on the feline last weekend and consequently decided to do the next few gigs with it. anyway i was a bit stressed at the show, was a bit non-ideal situation etc etc. was really nice having the ability to switch my guitar playing on autopilot - no fret buzzing with heavy handed chords. reasonably fast (for me) runs on the neck came off well too with little concentration. polished frets made slides and vibrato a breeze.
