Title: In The Club (Edwards)
Post by: kevincurtis on December 11, 2007, 08:18:05 PM
I hereby apply to be in his esteemed club :)

Got the 130 relic on friday..dont know what the fuss i about, I mean, looks fantastic, plays great straight out of the box, and deep rich tone, and thats with the standard pickups (gets a bit thin in upper registers as you poor on some gain though... so gonna have to start saving again for a BKP fund  8)  ). I have to say I plugged in my Crawler'd Strat staight after and the difference in tone was very marked (I still love its sound though!), this Edwards has a deep bass and clariy that none of my guitars have displayed..may yet tip me over to being an LP man!

Other than that though...nothing special really

Funny you say it's "nothing special" - what were you expecting????  A '59 burst for £500????

Shamefully I was...I know it's the lowest form of wit, but I felt the urge. Seriously I am very very happy with it, athough I am demonstrating the temperance of a Trapist monk..as it's an xmas present, I have had to leave it alone until the 25th other than my initial checking it was ok, so I am really looking forward to getting some solid time with it!

Congrats on the new axe Kevin. It's a beauty.

My MIJ Tokai LP converted me to Les Pauls. After 20 years of playing everything except LP's, I don't want to play anything else now !

I don't think they do a blue burst, but they certainly do at least a couple of blue guitars.  For example:

Holy. shite.

I really want a fit blue quilted guitar like that to go well with my delicious Wine Red Ravelle.

I love those deep saturated colours in guitars.

One of the main reasons I keep drooling for PRSs.

I was curious about the pups...haven't taken them out yet, but I assumed they would be copies of the genuine SD's?

And to the rest of you...please stop putting up gorgeous pictures of other guitars...it's all just too tempting! :)

No, Edwards use genuine Duncan pickups.  I didn't realise they were Antiquities on the relics though.

I think my gast has been flabbered - £220 worth of pickups, must be where a lot of the extra cost of the 130 comes from. Now I'm desperate to test again - I was really impressed with sound, but I expected it to be thicker from an LP which I figured was from the pups...may have to go the Twinfan route and start a collection with another one for thicker sounds!

You didn't know the 130 had SD antiquities?  :? Did you choose to buy the 130 instead of 112 solely on the fact it's all lacquer? Well it must be a good surprise for you then  :)

I wasn't really concerned over the pups (I just figured it would be BKP'd in the not too distant future), I have wanted an LP for a long time, but never found anything that looked like i wanted, and was in a sensible price bracket. I didn't want a heavy gloss type finish as I prefer smooth satin on the neck, and from what i could glean the neck profile on the Edwards would suit me, which happily it does. So yes, I am very happily surprised it has genuine antiquities :)
