Title: Telecaster pickups doubts
Post by: FernandoDuarte on December 18, 2007, 12:45:04 AM
Hello guys... Kind of nonsense questions here...

1) I've heard once about a "nashville" tele been made by a brazillian luthier... but he put the middle p.u. UNDER the pickguard... So, I was thinking: I like the looks of the Esquire, would work if I put the neck p.u. under the pickguard, or would this sounds like shite?

2) I asked once to Tim, and looks like he asked it's not possible... probably everybody will agree... But I've deleted the email, so I can't remember exactly what did he spoke...
Was about a Telecaster bridge pickup with black poles, or no poles or something like "Seymour Duncan Hot Raills"...

He said something like would not work... Anybody knows something about?

Thank you!  :D

I think that would be asking a lot of a pickup to pick up the string vibrations through the plastic as well as the intervening space between the string and the scratch plate itself.

Under the pickguard? Why bother at all?  :?

it can be done but it is too much of a compromise in tone.  basically you need to use stronger magents to get a good signal but obviosuly thats going to change the tone

most people agree that BKPs sound est when adjusted to just the right height  - cant do that with the pickup so far away
