I'm looking to buy a 4 x 10 cabinet for all my amps to be plugged into, as it's by far my favourite sound, especially the fender type, but what are my options? and how much do they cost? I'll need one for next year as I plan to start hitting the road 3-5 days a week, so it has to be very relaible, and consistenly sound amazing.

Never played one myself but I've heard lots of good things about the old Marshall 1965 A/B cabs. They come up pretty cheap on ebay on a reasonably frequent basis.
It's strange, we all seem so obsessed with 12" speakers. THere's nothing wrong with 10" speakers, it's just that they're not "fashionable".
-
Well I think it probably has to do with the fact that 12 inchers strike the best balance between offering treble and bass frequencies for a guitar amp signal, at least for the majority of styles.
-
I once played a Bogner 4x12 open back metropolis cab, awesome cab!!!

like this one?... http://cgi.ebay.com/Marshall-speaker-cabinet-4x10-35-watt-celestions-8-ohms_W0QQitemZ230204466108QQihZ013QQcategoryZ38075QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Other than trying your luck on ebay, I'd recommend talking to Matamp to get a custom cab built if you want something REALLY solidly built. Cornford or Cornell would be good for a more Fendery pine-built cab.
If it was my cab , I'd load it up with a pair of 10" G10 Vintage Celestions for some serious poke and a pair of Jenson P10Qs for that US vibe and smoother treble.

10" speakers are fine.. not my bag.. but they work.
im sure tom morello used 10" speakers for quite some time.
-
I've got a Marshall JTM C410 cab, loaded with G10 Vintage Celestions which I've been using (gigging) for over a year. It was cheap (I bought it with an amp, but say £100 plus what I paid for the speakers) and those who've heard it have said the bass is superb, equivalent to a good 2x12.
It's also a damn sight easier to tote around than a 2x12, being narrower, and I reckon it does most of what a 4x12 does, in terms of spread, overall waft etc.
Highly underrated for pub giggers.

Martin, I really have heard so many people say exactly the same thing. One day, I must get myself a 4x10.
-
Martin's right - his 4x10 does sound very good. It has four Celestion Vintage 10s in there and it's great.
-
Marshall 1965A cab, maybe they made a B version also but im not sure.
I think they made this 4x10 with the marshall artist series, its a cheap cab if you find it used, most dont know whats innit anyway.
It has clelestion vintage 10L-35 speakers, ill guess those are the ones were talking about.
EDIT: i should read what others post more  Its the same HTH linked.

that's great guys, thanks again for the advice, I really like the sound of that cornford cab, with the Jensen and Celestion, bet it sounds amazing! time to keep saving my pennies.

yeah I agree! 10 inch isn't the usual first choice, I would love to find a 4x15 cab, just for the fun of it, they must sound ridiculous. :P

It's all too easy!
So on topic, what's the difference between a 1x12 and a 1x10? I'm planning on getting a Tiny Terror soon, and need to learn about this cab dealio.

hey, i've got a marshall 1965a, and yes, there was a b version too. It came with the 3203 artist head which i also have, or the lead 100 mosfet, which i had and sold. they are real cheap on ebay. i picked mine up along with the mosfet for $400, sold the head for $300, so a damn good deal. Sorry i don't really have much to compare it to. Its the only cab i've ever had. I played my friends 4x12 (peavey ultra cab?) once and i didn't really notice a difference in the bottom end. i actually like my 4x10 better. plus... ridiculously light. probably weighs the same as the head.

I've no idea what you mean
As for the 10 versus 12 issue, 10's don't have as much low end entension and are more mid-focused. You're not quite gonna get that 'chunk' in the bass if you play metal.
For anything else, a quad of tens should be fine - classic Fender Bassman setup and they're GREAT amps.
