Title: christmas rock!!
Post by: blue on December 19, 2007, 04:34:04 PM
okay, i know this is cheesy as hell, but does anyone know any christmas tracks by rock or metal bands?  the only one i can think of is the Darkness' Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End).  i have a picture in my head of Motorhead doing one, but i don't know if that was real!!

oh, and didn't the Chili Peppers do Jingle Bells about twenty years ago?

That song is different, as it's not a standard made into a rock song, which all suck.

Remember Twisted Sister's XMas album last year? It's pants!

That Darkness tune roxx0rz!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few guitarists have done Christmas albums with terrible names like "Merry Axemas" - Steve Vai, Steve Lukather and Gary Hoey spring to mind.

And Jon Bon Jovi had that piss-poor single Please Come Home For Christmas (with Cindy Crawford in the video).

My fave christmas rock song:

Phil Lynott was so damn cool!

Trans Siberian Orchestra isn't strictly a rock or metal band but has strong ties with Savatage:

TSO is a joke, and it's 'strong ties' with Sava have long been severed by Jon Oliva himself, who never wanted to do TSO in the first instance.

I think JT was talking about Twisted Sister's reworking of "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" as a third-rate gumby metal anthem.  Which is complete and utter bollocks.  What a pathetic, unimaginative arrangement.  If the whole "Twisted Christmas" album sounds like that, I hope nobody wastes their money on it.

I quite liked the TSO track.  :)

Have you noticed that it is the same tune as "We're not gonna take It" from Stay Hungry?

In the very beginning TSO was more than a XMas novelty band, but not much  more. I really can't stand any of their material, but at least some of the subject matter was a bit different.

It is very similar, isn't it?  And I noticed the bit where Eddie played the "We're Not Gonna Take It" riff during the solo (not forgetting the weird doom version of "Hava Nagila" at the end...).

It's still tripe though.

How anyone can call TSO a joke is pretty amazing to me I mean if it was a joke why would guitarits such as Alex Scholnick, Al Pitrelli and Chris Caffery have anything to do with it?

Another classic TSO track to a very cool video:
