Alrighty I have had a profitable Christmas + Birthday, and I need a new amp. I'm torn though, here's the science bit.
On the cards is a Tiny Terror. I like the tone and the portability, love the idea of taking it to rehearsals and gigs on my back. Portability is a big factor here, as being a student living on my own with no transport lugging a 1x12 combo to a rehearsal on a bus doesn't exactly appeal to me. Lets ignore a cab for the time being, the Rrooms have plenty...
Then again I did play a very nice Blues Jr a while back, and was mighty impressed by the tone. The Peavy Valvekings are also reasonably priced and my Dad swears by his. Also Woogie is selling his VC30, which is a 2x12 and would sound awesome, again not portable...
So it boils down to- TT: portable for rehearsing- my own sound and the DSLs in the rooms can feck off (awful amps...), but compromise in wattage/volume. Gigs will be fine, shall be mic-ed up in 90% of cases.
Or, something a bit more practical, but harder to lug around.
All this is short term really, as by Summer I shall have graduated, got a car and a nicely paid job. But in the short term I need some guidance.
If this post sounds disjointed and is a pain to read I apologies, I'm tired, got my girlfriend talking to me while I type, and also have found a sweet sound with my tele and some dirt and some vibrato from my amp. Noodling while holding a conversation AND typing is a tricky job.

the vc30's I kinda like...only valve kink I've tried died on me....vlave jnr a bit bassy for me..great with a few mods though...but the TTerrors are sweat and can be bloody loud through a 2x12...sweet tone

Well you already know I love my TT so that would get my vote.
I also own a ValveKing 112 and while it has an awsome clean tone I'm not greatly impressed with it's lead channel. Now there are 2 mitigating points to mention, a) I've been playing with the valves and it's now geared towards the clean channel at the expense of lead. b) I've not tried a distortion pedal into the clean channel to see what sound that gives me.
My 2 pennies worth:
TT: Great distortion, no clean channel but cleans up ok.
VK: Great clean, not great at distortion, espcially next to a TT.
If I had to pick one it would be the TT (and if I could afford it a fecking great 4x12 with good db effiency to solve any volume issues)

Another option for rehearsals would be a couple of pedals into the clean channel of a DSL. That doesn't help you with gigs of course. Just a thought.

I was thinking if I had to choose between my (well technically my husband's) Tiny Terror, and Peavey valve king what would it be.
It's realy difficult, the clean sound from the Peavey is fantastic, so if want an awsome clean tone Peavey.
Tiny Terror never gets really clean but seems to work better with effect pedals, and don't let the power thing put you off. On paper it may have fewer watts but orange rate their amps differently to other brands. They measure their output rms clean. This means when compared to other amps (including the valve king in my experience) it may say 15 watts on the front bt it sounds more like 30.
You may may need a doctor after carrying it around for a while. It may have a handle and call itself portable but it feels like its carved out of lead :D . But the words lightweight and amp never go together. Oh ad the Tiny Terror sounds amazing for everything but totaly clean. In fact it makes me sound like a better player, so I guess I would have to say Tiny Terror.

what about minimat2 or the koch studiotone 20w with all the extras

Thanks for the input folks.
As for the TT being heavy, I'm a big lad, that aint a problem ;)
Pedals into the DSL still sound horrible. Dunno if its the amp of the fact that they get worn into the ground by valve newbies all day.
The TT ticks more boxes for me, and for my band I never really use a 'clean' tone anyway, always slightly crunchy. Was just concerned by the potential lack of volume, THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-PHqs4zBAc) video helped though...

put through a decent 2x12 or 4x12 stack..is very loud

+1 on the koch studiotone. should be pretty portable too. from what i remember, it's pretty small, anyway (the head version).
EDIT: either that or the TT. I'm a wuss, so portability would be important to me.

How about something in between, such as this:

Check this out. Its a FULL VOLUME TEST for the TT vs the larger orange amps to show how versatile it is. Basically how loud the drums are shows the diff in the volumes and when on full vol how the TT competes with the drums non mic'd!!

I posted the link to the Orange full volume demos a few posts back, good stuff.
My main dilemma was to compromise volume for portability, as I knew tone wasn't an issue. Looks cool though, the Tiny Toaster seems to be able to punch above it's weight. Woo.

That was excellent.

Get yourself a Koch Studiotone, it's full featured, can sound vintage AND modern (thx to the mid voicing switch), got every ins and outs you'll EVER need (beside midi switching but hey, nothing's perfect) and it's light enough to be carried around.
I love mine :D

^^^come again?
you on drugs indy?
lovley round 6V6 tone. Yum yum.
-
indy seems to be being a bit sensationalist, but i must say the tone of that rivera isn't what i prefer either.
however - twilight has a good point - what about something in between?

(although this could probably fit under your 'small amp' catagory)
-
my experience says: big amp = big sound
Gotta have to do with the transformers or so.
I also regularly prefer big amps at low volume to small amps at low volume.
