Title: Are BKPs standard size?
Post by: hhcave on January 02, 2008, 05:27:05 AM
Hey,
I have a carvin guitar which i know can fit Seymour Duncans and DiMarzios but am not sure about BKPs - are BKPs the same size as these pickups?

Also, can anyone suggest an HSS set for me? I play mostly instrumental rock/jazz fusion and my guitar is a superstrat, mahogany, neck thru body with a maple (2 strips of mahogany) neck and ebony fretboard....oh and it has a floyd rose....

And can anyone explain to me why exactly the miracle man is so much better than EMGs (in a Les Paul)? Oh AND, are 2x Miracle Men a good combo for Melodic Death Metal stuff? ie. In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Lamb Of God etc... or would Warpigs be better?

Thanks

I can't answer your questions about what pickups would achieve what you are after but I can advise that BKPs are standard sized.

...however humbuckers from other manufacturers may occasionally not be standard size. (important to note sometimes when changing standard pickups)

I would have been able to answer that for you today, but at the guys at the guitar shop STILL haven't fixed my guitar. So I can't post clips, but I play it and I have a Cold Sweat in the neck and a Ceramic Warpig in the bridge.

My next set however, would be a calibrated Miracle Man set. Which are good (I think hopefully) for harmonics.

BKPs are standard size.

Through much effort in searching for you, I think it's safe enough to go with a Nailbomb/Triology/Triology wound up to 21k, like in your last thread.

I think the actual question is, Are Carvin pickups standard size? BK pups will fit in 99% of all guitars fitted with Fender, Gibson and aftermarket P90, single coil, and humbucking pickups. Carvin does not use aftermarket pups, but designs/builds their own.

I'm almost entirely sure the answer to the question posed above is no, but am not sure what modifications need to be done to make a BK fit.

Good point - if the Carvin is the HSS guitar you mentioned, then Carvin single-coils are certainly different from standard - they don't have the "triangular" base plate.

I think Carvin humbuckers are standard size, but they use a 3-screw mounting ring you'd need to modify or replace.
