Title: Do I need new volume and tone pots?
Post by: TX6Strings on January 03, 2008, 02:31:50 PM
Hello All,

I'm new to this forum and BKP but I had a quick question. I'm installing a Nailbomb (B) and a HolyDiver (N) into an LTD EC-1000 and I was wondering if I'll need to get new volume pots and a new tone pot? I have no idea what pots are in the guitar now and I'm not changing out the picks ups myself I'm going to have a local tech do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Brad

Welcome to the forum!  :D

You shouldn't need to change the pots - your LTD almost certainly has 500K pots which will work fine with the NB and HD.

However, you could upgrade from the Korean/Japanese pots to US ones (made by CTS or CGE) which are better quality, and you could also get a better quality capacitor for the tone control.  It's not a necessity though, if the existing controls work fine as they are.

Since you're getting a tech to do it anyway, it might be worth seeing how much extra it would cost to upgrade the electronics.

I have the same guitar, Seymour Duncan version, so i didn't need to replace myn when i installed my Black Dogs. Though if you have the EMG version then you might have to...

Thanks for the reply! That's the answer I was hoping for! lol But I will check into upgrading the electronics.
