we can all talk about fancy chords... but i'm with the crew who say:
E5

-
The one that starts "A Hard Day's Night" ;)
-
The ones at the start of Highway to Hell.
-
In all honesty though...
A Minor 7 Flat 5.
-
The ones at the start of Highway to Hell.
Or "Long Way To The Top" ;)
-
E augmented 9th dominant
or
E5
or
Dsus2/Dsus2/Emaj
Can't decide
Note: this is the geekiest thread EVER
-
F#/Gb 7 sus 4
The 'Rush' chord play it and hear why!
-
the james bond chord.
-
minor major 7th
or diminished 7th
or
0
0
X
2
2

downtuned with loads of distortion
I've only just started playing with extended chords so I don't have a preference on those yet
-
can't beat A5 with a Les Paul and a cranked Marshall plexi.
-
D minor which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it, and I don't know why.
Does this mean Dm is the saddest chord?
-
Yes, yes it does. Russian sevenstrings have a low D added, primarilly for that chord.
-
The ones at the start of Highway to Hell.
Or "Long Way To The Top" ;)
Or Shot Down In Flames.
-
A minor

True. and you can make it even sadder if you play it and push down on a Bigsby a bit. It can make grown men weep.

Sorry fellas. I crush you all now;
Drop-D, D5.
It's easy, and it sounds like God driving a bulldozer... through the right amp 8)

A---2---

Em9 I think, with a 7th in there. Very sexy.

Dropping is for people too lazy to play properly.
I'd say EMaj to;
0 e
0 b
2 a
0 g
2 b
0 e
Has a certain charm in a REAL tuning. By that I mean standard and not dropped.
Alt. tuning on the other hand is for acoustic players and nutters.

Apart from the opening chord to Hard Days Night the following is one of my favourites
Am7sus4 (as in the one below, very rich sounding on a 12 string)
E 0
B 3
G 0
D 2
A X
E X
Especially if followed by Fmaj7
E 0
B 1
G 2
D 3
A 0
E X
Though I do have a softspot for the discordant cord near the start of Floyds Astronomy Domine (but I cant remember what it's called but it's played straight after a regular open E)
E 0
B 0
G 0
D 1
A 1
E 0

I dig a simple F#5...that hits my heavy button
-
the one with a 1/4" jack end on it!

Too true!
-
I'm with the A5 on a Les Paul vote - think of how many classic songs use that (or variations on it) !
-
The standard 1-3-5 major triad. The basis of all Western music.
