I fancy adding a chorus pedal to my live arsenal, but I need a small sized one to fit on my pedal board. I like the sound of my Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man but it's just too massive to put on my board! Are there any MXR Phase 90 size chorus pedals out there that sound decent???
-
Try the good old Ibanez CS-9.

Gotta be a MIJ 80's Boss CE-1- just the best..

Great pedals!! I love my MIJ 80's BF-2.
-
Thanks Ratrod. CS-9 looks like a good option, or the MXR M-134....
-
I like the HBE Three Hound Chorus pedal.
Also, I love the sound from my BOSS PS-5 pedal set to 'detune'. Great chorus/doubling effect!!

The CE-2 MIJ 80's i have is the stompbox version of the large CE-1 cult unit, never heard any better ones that those im afraid. The CE-2's turn up at times and at reasonanble prices.

I have a Jacques Meistersinger on the way (was a real steal on the bay). There's a lot of hype about it, and it's supposed to do CE1, Roland JC120 and then some.
I'll let you know once it arrived and I gave it an extensive go.

Just found a Tonechore Chorus for half price on 2dehands. It's a Belgian site and doesn't offer the same security as ebay obviously, but the guy looks reasonable from his ads (he also sells a rather tasty kinda vintage Boss Pitchshifter/Delay).

How about the new Electro Harmonix nano clone. Same sound as the small clone (the sound of Nirvana and a few others) but in a size that you're looking for. Quite cheap as well.
-
I have a Keeley speedy mod Boss CE-2 which is excellent. There is a lot of confusion over the made in Japan and made in Taiwan versions. I emailed Robert Keeley asking what the difference was and was told that the circuits are exactly the same with both versions of the CE-2.

I constantly phwoar at my MXR Stereo Chorus. Very warm sounding chorus.
-
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm heading to PMT in Birmingham next week where I'll check them out!
-
Meistersinger arrived today. Just plugged in and gave it a go. Sounds awesome both clean and distorted, very phat and warm but at the same time with a silvery shimmer on top.
Dig it!
Will post clips later ... (my SM 57 died, so the clips won't be usual quality unfortunately)
-
Hey TF, did a quick one about the Jacques pedal, not very sophisticated clip, but gives an idea I guess...
Here you can check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFRi_c0wSkY

Ha ha - top clip Hunter!! Like the way you had to get a bit of Led Zep in there ;) The Beat It part was inspired too!
Would you rate the pedal then? Worth buying? Not tone sucking in any way?
-
The CE-2 is very nice indeed. I have one (though I'm not sure whether it's made in Japan or Taiwan), and although its rather beaten up, it still sounds great.

errm, sounded so emo, I had to get the stairway out
Not tone sucking, looks cheapo plastic but has weight and quality.
Though I only tried it in the loop of the Budda. It is not true bypass, so I'll have to try in front of the amp to give a proper statement, will do tomorrow.
Are you planning to use it in the FX loop or in front?
-
It would be in front, on my board......

I completely agree. That's why I bought one on the shopping trip I mentioned earlier in the thread. Didn't realise I hadn't closed this one off.....

I spent ages searching for "the" chorus pedal... the MXR SC is it for me, very tunable and such a warm, lush analog sound.
-
i thought about it for a long time too, ended up with the Analogman Chorus. was close between it and the Jacque, and to be honest it may have been appearance that swayed it  although the A.Man is like the EHX while the Jacques is modelled after the original Roland/Boss.
it sounds good though, and i hope to spend more time with it soon. course, as is the way, i still might get a different one at some point

I suppose it's too much to hope that there is a Jacques dealer in NI
-
One should never ever feel bad for opting for an Analogman product. Talk about quality.

oh god aye, far too much to hope!! you know how it is here, you do all the research you can on these things then have to take a chance through mail order. unless you like cheap zoom multi fx and marshall mg's there's not much chance of trying anything out!
-
BYOC is good too, if you can be bothered. Sometimes assembled ones come up on ebay.

the analogman mini chorus is a thing of beauty
i still regret selling mine :(

My vote is for the Diamond Halo Chorus, I love it, though it may be too large for you. http://www.diamondpedals.com/products/halo.html
-
yeah, during my search i seriously considered both the Diamond and the Red Witch Empress, but they're both extemely expensive! ultimately i decided to go for simplicity. i do find that if you buy a complicated effect it's harder to get the best out of it and you often don't fully explore it's abilities. at least, that's my experience.
