Title: would using a bass through a guitar cab damage the speakers?

im unsure about this and was asked to ask on here by a friend

he has a cab loaded with g12ms and wants to know if it would damage the speakers at all usinga  bass head & guitar with his current cab.,

Hmm, not sure about those particular speakers but at low volume it should be ok but I am talking room volume here.I'd avoid cranking things up-obviously check that there is an impedance match if you do go ahead though. I have done it for quiet practice before now but as a rule, I would say go very easy and only do it if you have no other option.

I'm sure Lemmy uses a Marshall stack for his bass.

I played some Lemmy stuff on a Hofner through a H&K Tube Factor, Fender Hot Rod and a 2X12 Jensen loaded cab. It held up just fine but I didnīt do it at Lemmy volume but loud enough to match the rest of the band. But that band is still low volume to my standards.

I wouldn't use a guitar cab for bass above bedroom volumes - you're risking the cones at higher volumes.

The power of the amp must be significantly lower than the cab load, or youll risk cone damage like HTH said.

You can stick a bass guitar in a guitar amp though, cant imagine why that would not work out, exept offcourse you should pay attention the low end isnt too much for the cab.
