Title: best choice for this tone?
Post by: Vu Huong on January 15, 2008, 09:58:52 PM
Hello,

Which Bare Knuckle humbucker would be a good starting point for this type of tone....

Welcome to the forum!

Cold Sweat and a Metaltronix or Splawn stack.

Max Norman's production really emphasized the attack and brillance of Takasaki's tone moreso than the earlier Japanese albums.

Not a bad choice, but not ideal for Takasaki type playing ... The VHII has the tightness in the bass but lacks the push of a ceramic magnet that you really need to get close to that tone.

I would say VHII if the acoustic sound of the guitar is rather thick, otherwise a Holy Diver?

Holy Diver would be my choice, but i can also see a Cold Sweat, Rebel Yell and a VHII doing that kinda sound fine as well.

I'm thinking more lower output ceramic magnet pickups for this.... so Cold Sweat, but the Holy Diver would be my second choice anyway.  Painkillers would be a little different, but would probably work nicely.

Rebel Yells are a little brighter, and a little too midrangey for that tone.
