Title: Apache Bridge with baseplate
Post by: kevincurtis on January 16, 2008, 12:39:50 PM
Hi All

Since everyone is posting Apache clips I thought I had better get in on the action :)

What I am trying to demonstrate via these bluesy ramblings is the flexibilty of the pups just using guitar volume, tone and pick attack. Both these clips were recorded with my JCM800 (with G12H) with the preamp set up full and then an SM57 plonked in front without too much refinement in placing (so the sound is a little thinner than in reality).

Clip one has guitar volume down and then pick, fingers used for dynamics.

Clip 2 has guitar up full, but tone backed off to stop it taking any heads off...it also really helps in stopping the thinness can occur given my setup. I think a decent compressor pedal would be a real asset with this pup to aid in thickening and sustain when needed.

The clips levels haven't been altered so it shows how it can clean up without losing a huge amount of volume.

heavy tone is very stratty with out being thin. i think this is quite a helpful clip.

Yep, that sounds loads better than the Trilogy I had. I think if I get another strat its between Irish Tours and Apaches now :)

The tone control is useful to avoid thinning when gain is applied - would it work on hair I wonder?  :P On all my H/B guitars the tone has been a rare used commodity, just take the edge off for some melodic work occasionally...but with the Apache I think as I get used to it the tone will be an integral part of getting the sounds, still early days for me yet though!

very VERY classy tone and a rarely nice touch there, well done!

I prefer the second/full on version ... just my nature

Yeah, I would lean towards a bit of 'grunt' myself!
