Sooooo, I have a black bakelite scratch plate coming for my Apache-Strat.
As I'm bored and never satisfied, I want to change the looks. Already sourced nitro-cellulose spray cans, so I am keen to give it a go. There are several looks possible, which you can chose from here:
These are photoshopped and I am out of training so apologise for quality issues.
1. As is (no change)
2. Black Scratchplate Only
(http://www.thegutbusters.com/temp/strats/as_is_Blackscratchplate.jpg)
3. "Eric"
4. "Jimi"
5. "David"
6. "Hotrod"

David or Hotrod for me- hotrod edges it.
Black scratchplaets and and white Pups FTW!
Now what to do with my gold scratchplate? (curse compulsive crowlike attacks of ebay GAS!)
-
I like "Gilbert" :p

Gold scratchplate / purple pickups - eouwwwhhhh
-
David for me..... Huge Gilmour fan :D
-
I like natural colour with black guard and black knobs if possible
-
I'd go with Will here.
-
whats the finish on the guitar now. If its an oil (like it looks) you will not be able to spray nitro over the top of it.
Oh, and hotrod if you can

yeah well, I oiled it yes. Wanted to sand it, put nitro foundation, nitro colour and nitro clearcoat.
On the hotrod I could also use a tinted clearcoat to give a vintage look to the white ... hmmmmmmmmmm
HMMMMMMM

they are all very nice, but i would go with Hot Rod
this is what i did to mine > http://tonlist.editboard.com/hljoofari-f7/dean-playmate-09s-hulk-fyrir-eftir-t37.htm

I'd go with no.5, "David". Or even a white finish and gold anodised scratchplate, like his other famous Strat.
I like the top two natural-finish options, but they'd look much better with a '70s big headstock. Natural finish and 50s neck looks wrong to me (I guess I'm a traditionalist).

Haha, we're all a bunch of nerds I guess ...
Quality work there, I should probably consider some surf green as well ...?

As I like to have nick names for guitars and the strat is at the moment just "number one" (it was my first ever electric), I could call her "Sir David" if I'd go the black-black route ... tempting indeed.
-
I voted number two - as is with a black scratchplate. Very SRV. You can still call it number one then ;)

HMMMMMMM
most oil finishes penetrate too deeply in the wood for sanding to be effective
generally i would say dont bother trying to spray over an oil finish but a couple of coats of shellac might work... shellac should bond to the oil and nitro should bond to shellac.
as always... test it all out inside a cavity first
that makes number 2 seem a better choice

I'm the only one that likes Jimi...?!
-
I voted David, but Jimy is also a wonderful option.
However where is the Hank option, especially with the Apachies installed !
-
I voted Hot Rod. I also like the black guard on natural but it looks too much like an old man's guitar. All the other looks are just so common.
-
Hot rod is the way forward in life :)
-
As is with black scratchplate for me. Understated but classy. That wood will age beautifully.
Perhaps black knobs, but not essential.
Oh, and Ratrod is right, I am an old man ...
-
I'm not one to talk, all my guitars are black with black scratchplates and maple necks...
Though the hot-rod is classy. Actually prefer number two, oiled with a black guard. Rock.

Hmm, "Stevieray" is a nice name too indeed, maybe I should add some darker brown spots* and done with the authentic replica? Or wasn't it a RW board?
*(no details will be revealed on how this will be achieved)

"Number One" was rosewood, but you could stay with SRV and go for a "Lenny" vibe:

I'm the only one who likes Eric. :(
Shotgun that my Strat copy's gonna look like that. :P

Ohhhh The Number One

I change my vote! THIS!
-
David or Hotrod, I lean towards Hotrod I think.
-
As is with black scratchplate for me............ or as is with a suitable wooden scratchplate - just thought I'd throw that one in there.
-
WD have finally dispatched my black scratchplate today, so I'll give option 2 a try next weekend and take it from there ... I think I'll end up with either David or Hotrod.
-
either as is, or as is with black scratchplate for me. :)
-
Wood would look pretty cool actually-

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

As is with black scratchplate would look best, IMO. But asking for my opinion about a strat is like asking Britney Spears about nuclear physics.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
Black knobs/pups looks even better I reckon

I like black pickguard/pickups on natural tho, my old strat had black pickguard with cream singles and a black humbucker/knobs and I thought it looked really good.
(sorry for the cr@p photoshopping btw :P)
