As I've mentioned on the forum before, I'm currently having a Marshall JTM45/100 clone built by Martin at Martamp. He also built my existing JTM45 clone that you can see in my avatar, along with the matching Martamp 2x12 I picked up last weekend :)
I'm going to be selling a couple of guitars in the near future to help fund a new Martamp 4x12 to match the JTM45/100. The 4x12 will be the same dimensions as a Matamp/Orange cab rather than the usual Marshall size.
I was a bit bored over lunch today so I did a bit of "cut and pasting" and a bit of "strectching and skewing" to see how my planned new half stack would look. Just swap the Marshall badges for Martamp plexi logos in your mind ;)
What do you guys reckon?

Jealous
-
You have way too many amps  Looks good though.
-
And what guitars *S*
-
Not sure yet. A Yamaha LW-5 acoustic for definite, possibly an Ibanez RG770DX and possibly my old Pearl Les Paul copy...........
-
You have way too many amps  Looks good though.
Not that many now!
JTM45
Little Rock
Klipp Super Bass
Valve Junior Combo
Klipp 60w
I recently sold a 100w Klipp and my Tiny Terror.
-
Nice, but not as nice as oh I don't know...a Hiwatt?
J/k mate...it looks stunning! 8)
-
It certainly does look very nice indeed.
-
Nice work Dave! :D
You forgot to paste a knob into the bottom right input jack.
-
Yes, very nice indeed ... 8)

(My jealous streak will only allow me to say mean things, so please read the exact reverse from what I am about to write)
Looks stupid!
Bad idea!
I hate JTMs!

Just on my way out - drop me a PM ;)
-
Nice work Dave! :D
You forgot to paste a knob into the bottom right input jack.
Fixed ;)
-
He did too! :o
-
i reckon it looks sexy.
whats the difference in dimensions between marshall and matamp cabs though?
-
Some of us don't have miracle grow for our money trees. :(
-
Nice work Dave! :D
You forgot to paste a knob into the bottom right input jack.
So you're going for power-scaling this time Dave. A good choice for a hundred watter methinks, even for you !
When is Martin planning to have it all up and running for you ?
Alan
-
Not power scaling Alan, just a plain ol' master volume. I don't need the control that power scaling gives, just a master volume to take the edge of the loudness for some gigs. I think a whole load of parts arrived yesterday, but he has another build to complete first. Mine should be done in about a month's time.
Jonny - I don't have a money tree either :( I've accumulated a lot of gear over the last few years, and I've sold a few bits to fund the amp. I'm now deciding what I need to sell to pay for the cabinet. A couple of guitars is what it looks like :(
the_bleeding - dimensions in inches:
Marshall cab: 33h x 30w x 14d
Orange/Matamp: 29h x 31w x 15d
The Matamp/Orange cab is a bit shorter, a bit wider and a bit deeper.

+1
And I'd rather plug my Gretsch Jet in a cheapo tranny amp than in that abomination. I'd hate to get an Malcolm Young tone.
-
My Super Bass Klipp does an awesome later Malcolm tone, so the 45/100 should be perfect for the early stuff. I'm thinking the intro to Dirty Deeds :)
I'm going to have to get a Gretsch at some point aren't I?
-
have to say gretsch guitars can be very sweet
-
I'm going to have to get a Gretsch at some point aren't I?
Just like I need to get a Telecaster.
-
My idea of amp holy grail is possible... but it'd cost a shed load of money to make, buy and would be the most bar-stewardised frankenstein amp ever conjured up. Heh. Maybe if I ever get rich...
-
Think mine would be
channel 1 2000> earlier twin clean or a original(havn't tried new ones)Hiwatt 50/100 (am very envious of HH Hiwatt)
Channel 2 a dirty jtm45 sound
channel 3 a prosonic Distorted channel or dual rectifier dirty channel(although love the soldano and 5150 dirty channels as well)
-
Three channels, each with a second channel built in for extra versatility!
Channel 1: Fender Clean on the "1" setting and "2" sounds more AC-30 like.
Channel 2: Classic Marshall crunch (JMP/JTM/Plexi-type) on "1" and "2" sounds closer to a JCM800.
Channel 3: Modern high-gain, SLO-100 type on "1" and then "2" is an uber-gain beast for metal.
4 way power switch - 100W, can be reduced to 50W, 30W or 7W.
FX loop.
Footswitch changes channels, switches between modes and provides a master switch the FX loop.
Each channel has volume, treble, mid, bass, presence, independent reverb and then a master volume for the whole thing.
High/low inputs.
Built-in additional EQ, operates across all channels, with the classic "V" shape to give a mid-boost for solos.
Valve failiure LED's.
Finished in a deep crimson tolex.
*drool*
-
a bit shorter, a bit wider and a bit deeper.
Sounds slightly sexual...
Amp wise I have a new found love for anything Orange. Though I do love the sweet, sweet tone from a Matchless DC-30. One day I shall bodge a Ceratone together for my self. And try not to lick any high voltage caps and die whilst doing it.
-
Channel one: Blackface clean but with an added gain contol to dirty it up a bit.
Channel two: JTM45/bluesbreaker.
Channel 3: Mesa Boogie Mark IV
added features: Fender reverb, tremolo, adjustable FX loop, solo boost.
-
I cant believe your not TV sizing that cab, you should know this by now TF!!!!
-
Nah, too Marshall-y and HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE.
I wan't something different and a bit beefy :)
-
Well the JTM45/100 should be pretty beefy indeed 8)
Just thought the resonant big and punchy sounding TV cabs would make a good match, as for beefy, you could also consider the normal sized but deeper "Bass" cab model marshall made in the 60's and 70's, will give you a deeper and richer low end IMO, at least it does on mine.
And i hope your just joking with the "too Marshally" right? :?
Marshall is to rock what god is to mankind....
-
I like the Marshall sound, but I want something a bit different. Hence the non-Marshall cab, and the fact that the amp is the uncommon JTM45/100 ;)
The TV is a nightmare to move around, I should have a similar tonewith the Orange/Matamp one - thick, fat and chunky :D
-
I know, just generating options to ponder about.....
You can actually improve a cabs bass resonance by adding a beam to connect the front panel (where the speakers are) with the back panel, my "Bass" cab has this too.
Are you planning for the G12H/V30 combo again?
-
Yep, the speakers are being transferred from my Marshall 4x12. Then I'll sell the empty cab.
I've (fingers crossed) got a guy coming tomorrow to buy the Ibanez RG I have for sale, then I can order the new cab :)
-
Well the Ibanez RG sale fell through :( so I'm keeping it :)
Thanks to Tom though, I've sold my Pearl Les Paul copy. Cheers Tom - hope you like it :drink:
The order has now been placed for my Martamp 4x12 cab, and the parts are "on the bench" for the M45/100. I'm a happy boy this evening :D
I may even have the cab in time for my next 'DC gig in mid Feb...
:band5:
-
Congrats,Twinfan 8) ! NB:You are going "full-steam"... Nice.
-
Jonny - I don't have a money tree either :( I've accumulated a lot of gear over the last few years, and I've sold a few bits to fund the amp. I'm now deciding what I need to sell to pay for the cabinet. A couple of guitars is what it looks like :(
T'is what I'd do.
-
Yep, the Les Paul is going to Tom and my Yamaha acoustic looks like it's heading to the 'Bay.....
-
Quick update. The "vision" is getting much closer to reality....
I'm heading off later today to pick up my new 4x12 :D I've been told it looks just like the pic on page 1 of this thread. Awesome.
I'll also be checking out the 45/100 which is well underway and should be finished in a couple of weeks or so. Luvverly jubberly!
-
Woohoo :D

Hey twinfan, you better get some clips once that things done. I cant wait to see the finished product.
my dream amp. hmmm.
120 watt, 4x6550 powered, switch to attach pin 8 to pin 1 (for tubes that have parts attached to pin 1).
ultralinear/pentode switchable. Switch to disengage feedback loop to lower headroom when neccessary
3 inputs (ch norm, ch brite, ch linked)
1 output (just another jack attached to the linked ch wire) for daisy chaining
2 mullard 12ax7's for higher gain plexish preamp. True bypass switches above the channel volume knobs to increase gain on the channels by switching in higher plate resistors. Maybe push/pull knobs if i can find them in DPDT.
2 fx loops: series and parrallel, each tube driven. cant decide whether to do 12au7's or to make one for jan5751's. True bypass, footswitchable (so series loop can act as tube buffered solo boost)
line out for slaving
1 sovtek 12ax7 lps for phase inverter.
7 knobs. (prebrite prenorm, treb mid bass, presence, master) push/pull knob to add resistor infront of master to convert it into 2megK pot as master vol boost.
Another switch to completely take master vol out of circuit (earbleeder switch hehehe)
metal cage grille so you can see tubes glowing :D
Hardwood cabinet, cannot decide stain colour, perhaps walnut.
its basically going to be a shameless Sunn Model T copy with the above upgrades. I almost have the schematic ready, save the FX loops. Then i just have to buy the parts and start building :D:D:D
-
Nice pics Dave! :) (Note to self: get better camera phone.)
Hope you enjoyed the drink last night, despite me moaning about ex band. Funny that they were on at the King's!
That 4x12 showed it's teeth even at low volume with the 18 watter through it. Can't wait to hear it cranked. :o
-

Keeping the Ibanez indefinatey?
-
For now the Ibanez stays, yes. Got a bit of a thing about them.
You should hear my new practice setup guys :o

-
Love the new cab Dave.
Very nice.
-
Cheers Ted - it has the potential to level buildings........
A gig in two weeks will properly test it out ;)
-
The 45/100 is running and sounds like a big JTM45 - just what I was hoping for! It's going to join the queue for cabinet fitting tomorrow and once that's done a master volume needs to be added.
Almost complete! I can't wait to try it :D
-
Well the head cab is built and painted, it's in the queue for covering and should be complete in a day or two. The amp apparantly sounds great, as reviewed by a few folk now, so things are looking very good indeed :D
I gigged the 4x12 on Saturday playing the first set with my JTM45 and the second set with my Laney Super Lead (modded Laney Klipp - used to be Super Bass spec but I had it switch to Lead a week or so ago). Both amps sounded fantastic though the new cab, and it was the best tone I've ever had. Great punch, clarity, shimmer, bite, harmonics - the lot. Very, very satisfying to play through either rig and I got some very admiring looks and comments on my setup and tone :D
To my ears, and my wife's, the JTM45 just pipped it in the tone stakes, but I had nowhere to go volume wise. It was fine for that particular venue (medium sized pub), but not for anywhere bigger. The Super Lead had another third of the Master Volume left.
So I'm hoping, and it appears to be, that the 45/100 is a cross between both of my current amps. The clarity and 3D tone of the '45 with the volume and increased attack of the Super Lead - the perfect combination for my needs.
You're probably all bored of this thread now, but I've still got a massive grin on my face in anticipation of gigging it for the first time on the 15th March :)
-
killer.. 8)
-
Nice one Dave, bet it sounds great. I'm still waiting for Metro to do a run of Aluminium chassis and the correct plexi panels, so all I've got is the transformers. Word on the Metro Amp forum is that the chassis will be ready soon (all excited)
Can't wait to get mine sorted - bet it's an awesome amp, I always love the clean tone of the JTM45.
-
It's here!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r267/junkacct/Martamprig.jpg)
This amp is something else - I've never heard anything quite like it. It has the 3D clean tone of a JTM45 but thicker and fuller. It's not just a louder '45 which is what I was expecting, it has much more harmonic content and the tone is fatter. It breaks up much quicker than a '45 too into a really creamy overdrive - so smoooooooooooooooth. I wish I had the gear to do some clips as it's quite a unique sound.
Compared to my Super Lead spec Klipp with EL34s, the Klipp is edgier and more aggressive - especially in the top end. It sizzles and spits whereas the 45/100 with KT-66s just sings. The Super Lead is a rocker and the 45/100 is a blueser.
I'm itching to try it at gig volume, so myself and Martin are planning on meeting up in the near future in a rehearsal room to properly test it. For those who are interested it's running around 500v on the plates and is putting out 60w clean.
As I said to Martin earlier tonight it's probably not the best amp for Angus tones, however it has MY tone 8)
-
Gorgeous!!
-
Gratz TF, thats a really beautyfull rig!
The way you decribe the tone sounds quite Marshally by the way, im sure youll get a great rock sound out of it too.
Would be great to hear some clips sometimes.
-
Thanks Henk. It is quite Marshally, no doubt about it. It's just very different to a "normal" Marshall. Really hard to describe the tone!
-
Right - I'll be a bit cheeky here
Here's a link to the Metroamps forum where the boss George has posted clips of the JTM45/100 he builds. Listening to these again this morning my amp sounds like this one does - they're good examples of the tone of a JTM45/100 :D
http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?t=9879
-
wow those clips are awesome. i love the way it reacts to lower notes in higher gain. Is that what people call flubby? because flubby sounds negative and it sounds awesome to me.
-
Yeah, it would be classed as flubby to a metal head I guess!
I'm trying it out cranked on Monday night in a rehearsal room with Martin, plus we may change a couple of components to see if that makes it a *touch* brighter. I'd like just a wee bit more cut and it'd be absolutely perfect :D
-
No tweaks required - the amp is perfect as it is.
Awesome at gig volume :D
-
Nice one Dave !! coolz ! Will it be your only gig amp, or will you A/B with the Super-Klipp on stage ?
-
It's going to be the #1, with the Super Klipp as a backup. I always take a spare ;)
The JTM45 and 2x12 I use for rehearsals and at home.
My amp GAS has completely gone :o
-
The JTM45 and 2x12 I use for rehearsals and at home.
My amp GAS has completely gone :o
Des your JTM45 have power scaling or an attenuator or do you just deafen folk? :P
-
It has neither!
At rehearsal it's just cranked and LOUD. At home, I run a Blackstar HT-Dual in front of it for gain :)
-
I've listened to that Metro clip many times it's fecking beautiful :droool: So your Ceriatone JTM45/100 gets very similar to that sound? Hmmmm I may have to rethink my plans. I know you've got Ceriatone trannies on yours but are there any special parts in there? Like sozo caps?
My amp GAS has completely gone :o
Let's see how long you'll last
Attempting to inject more GAS into Dave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2_12Ler9B8)
-
I can't get YouTube here at work, so I'll check the link later Kaz :)
As for my amp, it's a slightly different spec to the regular Ceriatone amp. Mine has the Martamp setup of fewer carbon comp resistors to keep the noise floor as low as possible. There are still a few in there in the places where they add some mojo though ;)
It has Ceriatone transformers throughout, Shuguang KT-66s, JJ ECC83Ss etc. There are a few other parts that Martin put in that are slight upgrades, such as valve bases and fuse holders etc, plus mine has a Post Phase Invertor Master Volume (PPIMV) too.
Myself and Martin took all my amps to a rehearsal room last night to do back-to-backs at gig volume. I thought the 45/100 needed a bit more clarity after playing it at home, but in the end we changed nothing. Until yesterday I thought my JTM45 was my best sounding amp, but I'm loving the 45/100 more now I've heard it at gig volume. Once you crank it up it gets into it's stride and does what it does superbly. This is NOT a low volume amp - it only works properly when you crank it over half way on the master, and that's when the tone REALLY comes out.
I told Martin last night that he's not allowed to build any more as it's MY amp and no-one elses
