THAT's a cool amp.

I wonder what the mods from 1959 spec are?

It'd have to be something to replicate Randy pushing his heads with an MXR Distortion+.
Apparently it has a "cascade mod" whatever that means.

And I think the cascade mod has something to do with cascading pre-amp á la Mesa Boogie

I wondered if it was that... does it mean that each preamp tube runs into the next or something?
-
Something like that.
-
That original head of Randy's is priceless, a one-of-a-kind like that.
-
yeah, that is pretty cool... :)
-
Hmmm. Sounds like it's just a slight variation of JCM800 then. Basically running through the two "channels" in series for more gain....
-
still...it looks lovely

I have a vague recollection ( from being at college in the 70s ) of 'CascAde' meaning that you stack the triodes in the preamp valves Anode to Anode, as opposed to 'CascOde' - which meant stacking then cathode to cathode.
Whilst I did not learn that in the strict context of guitar amps, I presume that if the basic principle was exploited for the guitar amp, conditions optimum for saturation ( or overdrive ) where reached pretty quickly - using a minimum of additional ciruitry .
I could have a rusty memory though, so I would be willing to be contradicted by one of the current amp techs on here... :)

aw, i was hoping it'd be a new signature mg.

Sweeeeeeet *drool*
Purely down to looks, I'd have no need for the sounds :P
-
Ah man, that is myn as soon as i get some money!
-
Looks really nice!!
I prefer the small logo Plexi's and JMP's though....
-
Very cool looking amp, but I personally think Randy's tone was cr@p. Love his playing. Hate his tone.
I think for the same money (or less) would rather get a Splawn Quick Rod that looked just like that cosmetically.
-
The back panel looks a bit off, looks a tad too modern maybe.
other than that it looks quite striking. Can't say I like his live sound that much really neither though :(
-
Cool amp, but Marshall should sack whoever writes their advertising blurbs.
Quite apart from the grammatical and spelling mistakes, they really should have looked in a dictionary before describing the amp as "infamous".
Sorry. Being pedantic. Bad mood.

good point, I hadn't noticed that, and I guess nobody else did?
bad mood or not, you're quick to notice!
(quickly proof read my post :) )
-
there are also some new JVM models with combinations of 2 channels, 50watts/100watts, heads/combos
-
My mate was wanting one BAD when he saw them announced by Marshall yesterday until I pointed out that he could get a JCM800 1959 head for a fraction of the price that would be much better built and sound like the real deal.
I'm thinking that the cascaded gain stages will be some kind of variation on a 2203. Will know for sure once I hear one.
btw, cacaded gainstages are generally hooked up with a cap tapped off the anode and fed into the next triode's grid (in very simple terms).
if you hooked up the anodes and cathodes, you'll be parallelling the stages which gives slightly more gain, but nowhere near as much as cascading (i.e. stages in series)
-
I'd rather put my c--k into a blender than touch a splawn again.
Old Marshalls all the way.. only way to go.
I like the idea of this amp but im sure it's not going to sound as great as the original.

That#s the typical outcome when
a. The product manager, who by nature is not full of editorial skill, writes the copy or
b. An agency writes the copy but the product manager edits it
c. An editor writes it but hasn't received a proper brief or doesn't understand the product
To me this looks like a)

Oh man no words can describe this, it's the awesomest wankage evar!

Sounds great to me. I'm not a RR fan, but I could work with this amp (if I could tame 100W anyway !).
In that video it's surprising that the amp doesn't seem to be producing that much volume. I suspect they've got the amp pretty much dimed, as there's a lot of distortion and it's a NMV amp, but they are standing right in front of the cabs in an enclosed space.
You can't see, but I strongly suspect that an attenuator must be in use behind the stack - still sounds great though.

Another NAMM clip

That DOES sound like a '59 on steroids! Amazing....
Still, i have the strange feeling there is something in the effectloop......

That is good :) I dont know how Ozzy can even stand to play with Zakk after having someone of that standard. I love the solo on Goodbye to Romance from the Tribute live album, hate the song but that is an awesome solo. I like his live tone as well, cant stand the studio tone though.
This amp sounds pretty good, I'd like to have a go on one.
-
I'd rather put my c--k into a blender than touch a splawn again.
Hummm why?
-
i've heard about this, apparently its guna be going for around 3500$ US?
and the cascade mod means that the gainstages will be in series instead of parallel, which might mean that 1 channel will feed into the other instead of having 2 completely separate channels like before... kinda like a 2203
i bet you mod companies will start offering this as a "randy mod" or something of the sort... that would be sweet.
-

Hummm why?
Masochistic tendencies?
I'm interested to hear as well
-
hmmm.. can you still jumper the channels on this one? didnt they jumper them to get more gain out of the early ones?
sounded pretty good.. but mine sounds better :D
but DAMN the low end in the JVM clip sounded like COMPLETE ass!! my farts have better tone
-
damn its going to be extreemly limited edition... might have to go get a 1959slp instead... im sure i can get a tin of white emulsion to it.
-
Man this amp sounds awesome.
-
Be ALOT cheaper to buy a Marshall or similar and pay an AMP tech./guru to MOD it to what YOU want.
This way you have YOUR tone (cos ya aint EVER getting Randy's, he's sadly not here anymore and was never cloned to my knowledge). Also, ya don't have somebody elses name on YOUR amp signifying you wanna be someone else and not yourself.
But thats just my opinion :)
Also, the parts from Randy's amp are not around anymore I would bet, let alone the Euro nannies deeming we ALL lick our equiptment and therefore banning lead solder SHEESH
-
I'm really interested to know what they did in that amp - there alot more gain than a 2203. One of my mates wants one but I talked him out of it saying that an original JMP would be money better spent, now I'm not so sure - they sound great.
Mind, he did point out in nerdish fashion the the piping on Randy's Marshall was black - not white like they've used in the reissue.

Unfortunately it don't have a loop
-
I don't like it. :(
Looks or tone.

 Oh well, in front of it then.....
At least to me it doesnt sound like 100% amp.
-
That sounds and looks brilliant

Pretty much, an extremely common mod for distortion back in the 70s and 80s.
I wonder if this is going to suck as much as the rest of the current Marshall lineup...

I am sure that an original JMP or JCM 800 would be much better money spent... the current lineup doesn't hold a flame to their older amps.

:D The thing to remember with RR tone is that when he & the band recorded the 1st Ozzy album, Jet records invested practically nothing in the recording process, it was done on the cheap. Nobody expected the thing to do much !
It was recorded on a 16 track studio setup. This hamperd the sound rather badly as you can hear by Randys sound. He allways sounded better live than in the studio.
I thought the amp in that Youtube vid sounded pretty damn good to my ears at least.

Holy cack - check out the price!!!! Got this from another forum:
The head is $2799.00, the cabs are $899.00.
:o

I saw them at about £500 for a cab, and £1200 for the head on some site
