Post by: Scotty477 on January 19, 2008, 05:22:44 PM
I came across this in another forum.

It seems Gibson are merging? ...  :o

TC Electronic and Gibson?

What the hell?

I guess Gibson want to move more into the effects market?

I just hope the G System doesn't become the G-ibson System...

So, is this good news for Gibson QC?
Wonder why they are actually doing it

It means nothing for Gibson QC - TC don't make guitars.

Just wondering if Gibson may try and improve their rep, as TC is perceived (by me atleast) as high quality thats good.

As usual Gibson are following Fender's moto - which used to be 'make innovative solid body guitars' and now is 'Buy Everything'

I think the main reason is due to TC's technology in terms of guitar effects modelling etc.

It seems Gibson's really getting into the whole digital effects thing since the success of Line 6 with the Pod etc, just look at the Robot Guitar, they're clearly becoming interested in this sort of thing.

By "merging" with TC there's a chance they'll be putting TC's digital effects systems into their guitars...

Buying a Les Paul with a reverb module would be quite cool tbh...

i wondered whether this means we will be seeing a modelling gibson... but gibson already has the digital LP in the works

should be an interesting merger all the same

A digital output - But as far as I know - there are no inbuilt effects.

i cant see this being much different from the many other companies gibson have bought.

TC will probably just operate as before, but gibson will own them.

I'm pretty shocked, to be honest.  I saw "merger" and thought yeah, you mean Gibson is taking over TC.

But TC's Anders Fauerskov is the new CEO of the merged business, and (even more surprisingly) is remaining based in Denmark.  That seems pretty different from Fender's drive for world domination.

I had no idea TC was such an (apparently) big company.

Indeed.

This merger seems far more weighted to TC's side.

I wonder if Gibson hit some financial problems?

TC has stuff in the studio world too, aside from expensive guitar effects! :p

Oh maybe if they start making Gibsons in Denmark, we can buy them cheaper in Europe?

Anyone having experience with Danish Mahogany, Rosewood and Maple?

According to the second of those links, it'll be called Gibson Guitar Corp.  I guess that makes sense since the junior(?) partner has the bigger name.

Shame, I quite liked Gitcon.  Or GiTCon, I suppose.

Gibson is a way bigger company than TC.. i bet its so they can develop digital line6 like amps  and more affordable fx under the gibbo brand and leave tc the highend

You're right, I misread that.  But it still implies day-to-day operations will be run from Denmark.   Interesting to see how it develops.
