Hey there, ive recently purchased an sg special and the pickups arent really that good.
I've heard some sound clips of the Yells and they sound amazing.
The style of music i play is rock, more modern then vintage.
Im looking for a pickup that sounds good under medium to high gain and cleans up well.
Thanks
-
if you're talking about a gibson sg special and not about epiphone special
rebell yell would be great
but if want to go modern mainly, buy a holy diver, maybe a nailbomb
they're great for cleans too

Yup, a Rebel Yell will be fine.

oh yeh, forgot to mention, its a white gibson sg special, its a beaut!
ok im gonna go for that.
thanks

Tim says to avoid medium output pickups in SG's because they tend to mud out and sound too bassy. I've currently got a nailbomb in my sg and im having a similar problem. I also tried my holydiver in my sg the other day and that also sounded alot darker and bassier than in my strat. I'd check with Tim before going for the rebel yell cos that may also sound quite muddy in an sg.

I agree with TomW, but having said that, the RYs are tight, focused and relatively bright. I reckon they might break the "rule of thumb" about medium-output pickups in SGs and sound really good.
But definitely worth consulting Tim.

isn't the holy diver already a hot wound rebel yell?
what is it's dc resistance?

Not sure mate, Tim built me one before they were stock items, and i've moved house twice since then, ie, no box!

My HD bridge is around 16k without a cover. No idea how it would sound in a SG though.
