It certainly wins the Biggest Photo Ever On The BKP Forum award.
But yeah, the top half of the body is way too small.
-
big pictures are great :D
you can see the flaws more and that quilt finish :D
-
Looks like its trying to mimic the change from ML to Razorback, with the middle of the body being really skinny.
Not my thing really, but the fretboard + inlays are nice
-
Gorgeous!
Emgs and an OFR?! On an EPIPHONE?!
RRP?
-
yea its ugly, its menna be a shreadder explorer... its just one ugly guitar
-
Just noticed the abscence of the top horn...
Not so pretty anymore.
-
no idea on retail
-
Changed my mind.
I still like it.
-
I just realised, the body shape's actually based on the Gibson Futura, the prototype of the Explorer (and it says "Futura Custom Prophecy" on the headstock  ):

Vintage or not it's a creepy (or cr@ppy, you choose) design :?
-
was going to mention the futura too.
not my bag, but i don't dislike it
-
You just can't improve the classic Explorer shape. Many have tried and failed miserably.
-
Explorers rule. I have 2. I've had 3.
That is pig ugly.
Looks like it would probably be comfortable to play, but pray tell me, what exactly is uncomfortable about a normal explorer?
-
Explorers are very comfortable. Although mine was a bit neck heavy, it was a joy to sit down with it.
-
It's all a bit wrong. Can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't stop it from being wrong. I like quilted maple, I like explorers, obviously not together though.

what intrigues me more is the fact, that they have 24 frets!!!!! 24 frets from the gibson camp?! :o
thy're definatelly moving into cutting into the LTD line of guitars
-
No not nice, I have a dean z bass (explorer shape) looks better than that.

Didnt the SG-1 or SG-X have 24 frets?
-
cant remember ..
googled it.. they both had 24 frets :P
-
long time gone now (except in my house) but the Gibson MIII had 24 frets.
as to the explorer/futura, i quite like it, although i'd prefer it without the quilt top. is that actually going on sale?

That was a typical latter-day day Gibson design - great concept, but they screwed it up with weird cosmetics like the "flint arrowhead" inlays and hideous scratchplate. :?
I have seen a pic of an M-IV with an ebony board and what looked like a black limba body, that was actually quite stylish.

i agree that the cosmetics are an, um, acquired taste  although i love the body shape. great guitars though, i love mine. and i have a les paul studio lite with the MIII electronics which has a box beside it with a pair of nailbombs in it, just waiting for me to find the time (and courage) to install them.
