I saw a picture the other day, on here, of someone showing off their rig with a really cool looking cab that just had the word 'White' on it. Anyway I loved it, anyone know where I can buy one, or even know what I'm talking about?
-
Do you mean this?

Hmm, no, it was more retro, I think it may have had a basketweave grill. It looked more like an Orange cab. I could swear that the post mentioned that it was made by Matamp, but I can't find it on their site.
-
white was another name given to matamps when they had the orange shop in london... i think theys till will do there amps with the white brandname
-
Would be Twinfans dream amp?
-
Yeah doing some reseach, I found another company called 'Green' that seems to have some affiliation with Matamp. I'm guessing that the 'White' and 'Black' also have some affiliation too. Any places to buy?
-
Yep, White/Black/Green etc - they're all Matamp cabs. They'll build one for you if you ask them.
-
just from matamp themselves - these are from the gallery

no whites there but i still think they do it

White amps were built initially in the Matamp factory in Huddersfield and sold throughout the North East from a shop in Sunderland.
Later, the cabs were built in Sunderland and the amps too by the look of the one's I've seen (doesn't seem quite upto Matamp standards).
I used to have a very early White full stack and it was built like a tank. Those cabs were back-breakers but boy did they sound great with those 50w Fanes. The head was all original too bar a shorted fuse holder I replaced.

In the US, the Green/White/etc amp trademark is actually owned by Electric Amps, not Matamp. Electric Amps was the US distributor for Matamp until they had a falling out and branched off as their own company and took the US trademarks for all the colored amps. Electric Amps are much higher quality than the Matamps IMO.

Higher quality in what respect?
I actually think what they've done stinks - Matamp were making amps for Joel for many years then he goes behind their backs and tries to register the Matamp name in the US (not cool).
To make it worse, he then goes and makes direct rip offs of Matamps for the US market.
I've been to the Matamp factory and have known the guys there for a long time - the quality is top notch and they really care about offering a well engineered amp at an affordable price. I've also worked on Matamps both new and (very) old and can say the quality is comparable - they've just brought their manufacturing techniques into the modern age.
-
Matamp are just about the highest quality you can possibly get in Amps, as far as I've seen.

I believe it was mine

It is as everyone says a Matamp & it's simply the best cab ever. Go get one! :D

I certainly am not in a position to say who had the moral high groud. I will say that in my experience, the Matamp guys are much much friendlier, as the Electric Amps guys are somewhat arrogant. HOWEVER, I will also say that the Electic Amps seem to have a more heavy duty construction.
In terms of tone, I really cant say, but the newer Matamps are getting more versatile as Electric Amps still only makes single channel.

Is this a joke?
We've been over this ground so many times here. Lets not go there.

You've heard the propoganda and believed every word of it then...
Have you ACTUALLY seen inside a Matamp? All of the Matamp's I have seen inside of (quite a few!) have been superbly built and would be able to endure a serious pummelling, and many have and are still going strong. The fact that these amps are seriously over-engineered to make the valves last longer, and most of their designs are self biasing so you don't need to take your amp to a tech to re-valve & re-bias your amp every year is another credit to their detailed design and care they take while building the amps.
Plus you the waiting time for a Matamp is about 10-11 months less than the waiting time for an Electric Amp (as quoted on numerous sites, their waiting time is around a year, where Matamp'll have your amps built in about a month).
+1 on what Ted and HTH said...

Matamps are over built to the nth degree. All the power ratings are RMS before clipping, the chassis weigh a ton and they are all built like a Yorkshire stone shitehouse! I wouldn't think there is anything out there that is built better (even the old Hiwatts, though they are probably as well made).
-
ooo er, I seem to have sparked off a heated debate! Well, thanks for the help anyway guys, I have added a Matamp 'Black' 2x12 to my list of things to buy in '08. Can you specify your own speakers?
-
Sure can ;)
